STWF Sports| AMARILLO, Texas| September 15, 2026 — The postseason has arrived for the Frisco RoughRiders, who open the Texas League South Division Series on Tuesday night against the Amarillo Sod Poodles at HODGETOWN.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. CT, with right-hander Aidan Curry set to start for Frisco against Amarillo right-hander Junior Sanchez.
Curry enters the matchup with a 3-4 record and a 5.82 ERA, while Sanchez is 5-3 with a 5.23 ERA.
Frisco earned its postseason berth by winning the Texas League South Division first-half title, finishing the opening half at 39-29. The RoughRiders are making the playoffs for the 11th time in franchise history and for the first time since 2024. Frisco has previously won league championships in 2004 and 2022.
Frisco RoughRiders’ Path to the Playoffs
Tuesday’s matchup will also mark the first postseason series between Frisco and Amarillo in franchise history.
The two clubs enter the series with plenty of familiarity after splitting 18 regular-season meetings at 9-9. Those games featured plenty of offense, with the teams combining for 75 home runs, an average of more than four per contest. Frisco held the edge in the power department, out-homering Amarillo 41-34 while also outscoring the Sod Poodles 140-135.
Several RoughRiders hitters found success in the matchup.
Marcus Lee Sang was especially productive, batting .450 over 15 games against Amarillo with a .515 on-base percentage and a 1.198 OPS. Dylan Dreiling and Max Wagner each hit four home runs against the Sod Poodles during the regular season.
Frisco enters the playoffs with momentum after closing the regular season with a 10-8 victory over Wichita.
Lee Sang delivered a four-hit performance in the finale, including a home run and five RBIs. Gleider Figuereo added a three-run homer, while Arturo Disla homered for the third consecutive game.
The RoughRiders finished the regular season with one of the strongest offenses in Double-A.
Frisco led Double-A with 1,276 hits and a .272 batting average while ranking second with 827 runs, averaging 6.0 per game. The club also led the Texas League in doubles and slugging percentage and established franchise records in both runs and home runs.
Dreiling enters the postseason after a standout regular season. The Rangers’ No. 13 prospect finished second in the Texas League with a .312 batting average and recorded 148 hits, 22 home runs and 84 RBIs.
He also produced a 25-game hitting streak from July 31 through Sept. 5 and hit .429 during August, leading all of Minor League Baseball among qualified hitters for the month.
Wagner also added 20-plus home runs, making him and Dreiling the first Frisco teammates to reach that mark in the same season since 2012.
Pitching remains an area Frisco will need to manage carefully.
The RoughRiders used a franchise-record 24 starting pitchers during the regular season and finished with a 5.76 starter ERA. That placed added pressure on a bullpen that carried a heavy workload late in the year.
Still, Frisco’s offense gives the club the ability to change games quickly.
The RoughRiders have shown all season that when the bats get rolling, runs can come in bunches. In a short best-of-three playoff series, that offensive firepower could prove decisive.
With Game 1 on the road and little margin for error, Frisco will look to strike first and put itself in position to move one step closer to another Texas League championship.
