STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | August 11, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders showed late life Tuesday night at Riders Field, but an early seven-run deficit proved too much to overcome in a 7-4 loss to the San Antonio Missions in the opening game of a six-game series.

Frisco entered the late innings searching for an offensive spark after being held scoreless through seven frames. The RoughRiders eventually found it with a pair of home runs and a ninth-inning push, but San Antonio had already built enough separation to secure the victory.

The loss dropped Frisco to 20-20 in the second half and 59-48 overall, while San Antonio improved to 19-21 and 50-59.

Both teams went quietly in the first inning before the Missions broke through against Frisco starter Ben Anderson in the second.

Performance Insights of the Frisco RoughRiders

San Antonio put together a three-run inning behind timely hitting, with Romeo Sanabria and Luis Verdugo delivering run-scoring hits. The early burst gave the Missions a cushion that grew steadily as the night progressed.

Anderson, who fell to 2-5 with the loss, continued working into the middle innings, but San Antonio added runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth before eventually stretching its advantage to 7-0 in the seventh.

While the Missions were building their lead, left-hander Ian Koenig kept the RoughRiders’ lineup in check.

Koenig turned in another dominant performance at Riders Field, tossing seven scoreless innings and surrendering only five hits. It marked the second time this season he has worked seven shutout innings in Frisco.

The RoughRiders finally broke through after Koenig exited.

In the bottom of the eighth, Corey Joyce launched a solo home run to get Frisco on the scoreboard and breathe some life into the home dugout. The blast helped end a season-long five-game stretch without a home run for the RoughRiders.

Frisco continued to chip away, trimming the deficit to 7-3 before the final inning.

Then Max Wagner provided another jolt in the ninth.

Wagner led off the inning with a solo home run, cutting the Missions’ advantage to three runs and extending his strong power production this season. The homer was Wagner’s 14th of the year, establishing a new career high.

Despite the late surge, San Antonio was able to record the final outs and preserve the 7-4 victory.

The RoughRiders’ bullpen did its part to give the offense a chance to climb back into the game. Thomas Ireland delivered two scoreless innings of relief, preventing the Missions from adding further insurance during Frisco’s comeback attempt.

For Frisco, the final two innings offered a positive takeaway despite the loss. After being shut out for most of the evening, the RoughRiders found their power stroke and forced San Antonio to work through the final frame rather than cruising to the finish.

The challenge moving forward will be generating that same offensive pressure earlier in games.

Now trailing the series 1-0, Frisco will look to even things Wednesday night at Riders Field.

Right-hander D.J. McCarty is scheduled to start for the RoughRiders. McCarty enters with an 0-2 record and an 11.37 ERA. San Antonio will counter with left-hander Fernando Sanchez, who carries a 1-2 record and 6.23 ERA.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT.

Wednesday will also feature Wine Wednesday presented by Landon Winery, with half-priced wine available through the seventh inning at Riders Field.
