STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | August 16, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders once again saved some of their best offense for late in the night, using another eighth-inning rally to defeat the San Antonio Missions 8-5 on Sunday at Riders Field and secure the six-game series victory.
Frisco RoughRiders Show Late Game Brilliance
Frisco improved to 24-21 in the second half and 63-50 overall, while San Antonio fell to 20-25 and 51-63.
The Missions struck first when Alex McCoy delivered an RBI single in the opening inning against Frisco starter Blake Townsend, giving San Antonio a 1-0 advantage.
Frisco answered in the third.
Marcus Lee Sang drove a two-run home run into the Lazy River, flipping the score and putting the RoughRiders ahead 2-1. The blast continued a productive series for Lee Sang, who finished the week with 10 hits and two home runs.
Townsend settled in after the early run and carried Frisco into the sixth inning.
The left-hander finished with 5.2 innings pitched, three earned runs and six strikeouts, but San Antonio broke through for two runs in the sixth to regain the lead at 3-2.
The RoughRiders responded immediately.
Frisco’s offense produced three runs in the bottom half, highlighted by RBI doubles from Yeison Morrobel and Ian Moller. The rally turned the one-run deficit into a 5-3 advantage and once again showed the lineup’s ability to answer quickly when challenged.
San Antonio was not finished.
The Missions tied the game in the top of the eighth against Leandro Lopez, setting up yet another late-game opportunity for a Frisco club that has made a habit of delivering in the final innings.
The RoughRiders capitalized.
Against San Antonio reliever Igor Gil, Frisco struck for three runs in the bottom of the eighth. The biggest hit came from Corey Joyce, who drove a two-run double to push the RoughRiders back in front.
The inning gave Frisco an 8-5 lead and continued a remarkable stretch of eighth-inning production throughout the series.
From there, Austin Roberts made sure there would be no final San Antonio comeback.
Roberts retired the side in order in the ninth inning to earn his second save of the season and close out Frisco’s third consecutive victory.
The series win came after the RoughRiders dropped two of the first three games before responding with victories on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Frisco’s offense remained consistent throughout the weekend.
Dylan Dreiling extended his hitting streak to 11 games with an early double and also drew a walk. Dreiling has been one of the Texas League’s hottest hitters during the second half and continued to find ways to reach base in the finale.
Lee Sang collected three hits, while Morrobel also finished with a three-hit performance.
The RoughRiders recorded at least eight hits for the ninth consecutive game, another indication of an offense that has found its rhythm heading deeper into August.
Sunday’s win also continued Frisco’s trend of producing when the pressure rises late. After multiple dramatic rallies throughout the series, the RoughRiders once again broke a tie in the eighth inning and handed the bullpen a lead to protect.
With a postseason berth already secured after winning the Texas League South Division first-half championship, Frisco continues building momentum toward September.
Against San Antonio, that momentum came through persistence, timely hitting and another late-inning surge that turned a close game into a series-clinching victory.
