STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | August 1, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders endured another difficult night offensively Saturday, falling 7-0 to the Corpus Christi Hooks at Riders Field for their third consecutive loss in the six-game series.
The defeat dropped Frisco to 17-15 in the second half and 56-44 overall, while Corpus Christi improved to 17-15 and 48-53. After winning the first two games of the series, the RoughRiders have now dropped three straight and will need a victory Sunday to salvage a split.
Corpus Christi set the tone immediately.
The Hooks scored three runs in the first inning against Frisco starter D.J. McCarty, who was unable to finish the frame. McCarty took the loss and fell to 0-1.
Thomas Ireland entered from the bullpen and helped stabilize the game. The right-hander completed the opening inning and then worked through the middle frames with little damage, giving Frisco 3.1 innings of relief.
Ireland surrendered one run in the fifth as Corpus Christi extended its lead to 4-0, but his outing represented a strong response after a difficult appearance earlier in the week. He allowed two hits, gave up one run and struck out six Hooks hitters.
While Ireland kept the RoughRiders within reach, Frisco’s offense struggled to generate anything against Corpus Christi starter Bryce Mayer.
Mayer was sharp from the opening pitch, throwing six scoreless innings while allowing only three hits. He struck out nine and did not issue a walk, consistently keeping Frisco hitters off balance and preventing the Riders from building any sustained pressure.
The right-hander improved to 4-2 with the victory.
Frisco managed six hits for the game, but none resulted in a run.
Dylan Dreiling accounted for two of those hits, including a double, continuing his strong stretch at the plate despite the team’s offensive struggles. Dreiling has been one of the most productive hitters in Frisco’s lineup throughout the summer and once again provided one of the few bright spots Saturday.
The RoughRiders could not capitalize, however, as Corpus Christi continued to add insurance late.
The Hooks pushed two more runs across in the eighth inning. Yamal Encarnacion delivered an RBI single before Jason Schiavone followed with another run-scoring hit, stretching the advantage to 6-0.
Chase Call provided the final blow in the ninth, launching a solo home run to make it 7-0.
The shutout marked a stark turnaround from the beginning of the series, when Frisco’s offense produced 18 runs over the first two games. The RoughRiders opened the week with a 5-3 victory before surviving a wild 13-12 contest Wednesday behind a nine-run sixth inning.
Since then, Corpus Christi pitching has taken control.
Frisco scored four runs Thursday, two Friday and none Saturday, giving the Riders just six runs over their current three-game losing streak.
That offensive slowdown has placed additional pressure on the pitching staff and defense, particularly after Frisco entered the series as one of the most productive offensive teams in Double-A.
Saturday’s early deficit made the challenge even greater. Once the Hooks grabbed a three-run lead in the first, Mayer never allowed Frisco to establish enough traffic on the bases to mount a serious comeback attempt.
The RoughRiders will get one final opportunity to respond Sunday evening in the series finale.
Left-hander Blake Townsend is scheduled to start for Frisco. Townsend enters with a 3-5 record and a 5.66 ERA and will oppose Corpus Christi right-hander James Hicks, who is 5-9 with a 5.17 ERA.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. at Riders Field.
After three consecutive losses, Frisco will look to rediscover the offense that powered the opening two games and close the homestand with a much-needed victory.
