STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | August 8, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders were held scoreless Saturday night, falling 5-0 to the Midland RockHounds at Momentum Bank Ballpark in the fifth game of their six-game series.
Frisco RoughRiders Strive for Consistency
The loss dropped Frisco to 20-18 in the second half and 59-47 overall, while Midland improved to 18-20 and 50-56.
Frisco used a bullpen game, with Cole Stasio making the start. Midland broke through first in the second inning when a passed ball allowed the game’s opening run to score.
That 1-0 margin held for several innings as the RoughRiders’ pitching staff kept Midland within reach.
The game changed in the sixth.
The RockHounds scored four times, three of them earned, to create the separation they needed. Justin Riemer opened the scoring in the frame with an RBI single before Cameron Leary delivered the biggest hit of the night, lining a bases-loaded single down the right-field line.
Two runs scored on the hit, and a third came home on a Frisco error, pushing Midland’s lead to 5-0.
The RoughRiders were unable to answer.
Midland starter Zane Taylor worked five scoreless innings and earned the victory, improving to 1-0. He kept Frisco from producing sustained offensive pressure and handed the game over to the RockHounds bullpen with the shutout still intact.
For Frisco, Frainyer Chavez continued his strong stretch at the plate.
Chavez collected three hits for the second consecutive game, marking the third time this season he has recorded at least three hits in back-to-back contests. His performance provided one of the few bright spots on a night when the rest of the lineup struggled to generate scoring opportunities.
The RoughRiders also received an impressive relief appearance from Jonathan Brand.
Brand threw three scoreless innings and struck out a career-high seven batters. His performance helped keep Midland from adding to its advantage after the four-run sixth and gave Frisco another strong bullpen outing to build on.
Saturday’s shutout continued an uneven offensive stretch for the RoughRiders.
Frisco had shown its late-inning ability Friday, scoring four runs in the eighth inning during a 6-4 comeback victory. One night later, however, the Riders were unable to manufacture a run against Taylor and the Midland bullpen.
The loss also gave Midland a 3-2 advantage in the six-game series with one contest remaining.
Frisco has already secured a postseason berth after winning the Texas League South Division first-half title, but the club continues to search for more consistency as the second half progresses.
The RoughRiders have shown throughout the season that their offense can produce in bunches, but Saturday was another reminder of how quickly momentum can shift in a long series.
Frisco will have one final opportunity to leave Midland with a split Sunday afternoon.
Left-hander Blake Townsend is scheduled to start for the RoughRiders. Townsend enters the finale with a 4-5 record and a 5.28 ERA.
Midland will counter with right-hander Ben Hansen, who is 1-0 with a 6.23 ERA.
First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Momentum Bank Ballpark.
A win would allow Frisco to avoid dropping four of six in the series and provide some momentum before the RoughRiders move on to their next challenge.
