STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | July 29, 2026 — The Frisco RoughRiders built what appeared to be a comfortable lead Wednesday night, then needed one final strikeout to escape with a dramatic 13-12 victory over the Corpus Christi Hooks at Riders Field.

Frisco erupted for nine runs in the sixth inning and launched four home runs, creating enough separation to withstand an eight-run Corpus Christi rally in the ninth. Bryan Magdaleno stranded the potential tying run at second base by striking out the final batter, securing his second save and Frisco’s third consecutive victory.

The win improved the RoughRiders to 17-12 in the second half and 56-41 overall. Corpus Christi fell to 14-15 and 45-53.

The Hooks grabbed an early advantage by scoring twice in the top of the first inning. Frisco quickly answered when Sebastian Walcott continued his impressive return to the lineup with a solo home run in the bottom half.

Walcott has now homered in consecutive games, extending a productive stretch since returning from offseason internal brace surgery. His early blast cut Corpus Christi’s lead to 2-1 and gave the Riders their first sign of offensive life.

Rafe Perich tied the game in the fourth with a solo home run, but the Hooks responded in the fifth. Trevor Austin took Frisco starter Ben Anderson deep, putting Corpus Christi back in front 4-2.

The game completely changed one inning later.

Frisco sent a wave of hitters to the plate during a nine-run sixth, with the first eight batters reaching safely against Jose Guedez and Jack Dashwood. The Riders combined patience, contact and power to transform a two-run deficit into a commanding seven-run advantage.

Perich delivered another run-scoring hit, while Ian Moller, Yeison Morrobel, Keith Jones II and Corey Joyce each contributed RBI knocks during the surge. Arturo Disla supplied the exclamation point with a three-run home run, completing the outburst and giving Frisco an 11-4 lead.

The nine-run frame was the RoughRiders’ second-highest scoring inning of the season. Frisco scored 10 runs in a single inning against Corpus Christi during opening weekend, making the Hooks the opponent for both of the club’s largest offensive explosions this year.

The Rise of the Frisco RoughRiders in Double-A Baseball

Anderson benefited from the rally and earned his first victory of the season, improving to 1-4. Guedez took the loss and dropped to 1-2.

Frisco added what proved to be two critical insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth. Dylan Dreiling launched a two-run homer to extend the lead to 13-4, joining Walcott as a RoughRider who has gone deep in each of the first two games of the series.

The Riders have hit seven home runs through the opening two games against Corpus Christi, continuing a historic power season for one of Double-A baseball’s most productive lineups.

What followed in the ninth was nearly an unforgettable collapse.

Corpus Christi opened the inning with six consecutive doubles and finished the frame with seven. The Hooks sent eight runs across the plate, rapidly cutting Frisco’s nine-run lead to one.

With the score 13-12 and the tying run standing at second, Magdaleno recovered and recorded the final strikeout. The left-hander’s finish brought relief to Riders Field after Corpus Christi came within one swing of completing a stunning comeback.

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager continued his rehabilitation assignment with Frisco, going 0-for-3 while playing five innings. Seager was appearing in his second game since beginning the latest stage of his recovery from a back injury.

Despite the tense conclusion, Frisco secured a 2-0 advantage in the six-game series and maintained its offensive momentum.

The RoughRiders will pursue a third straight win Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Left-hander Dylan MacLean, who is 7-1 with a 4.44 ERA, is scheduled to start for Frisco against Corpus Christi right-hander Brett Gillis, who enters at 5-2 with a 3.66 ERA.
