STWF Sports |CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas | April 30, 2026 — Power at the plate wasn’t enough for the Frisco RoughRiders on Thursday night, as a late swing flipped the script in a 7-6 walk-off loss to the Corpus Christi Hooks at Whataburger Field.
Frisco RoughRiders Continue to Impress
The defeat dropped Frisco to 13-11 and snapped a five-game winning streak that had been fueled by explosive offense and timely execution. Instead, the RoughRiders were left to rue missed opportunities after an early surge failed to carry through the later innings.
Frisco’s offense came out firing in the opening frame. Facing Corpus Christi starter James Hicks, the RoughRiders wasted no time asserting control. John Taylor ignited the rally with a two-run home run, and Corey Joyce followed with a towering blast of his own, quickly staking Frisco to a 4-0 lead before the Hooks could settle in.
The early power surge continued a growing trend for the RoughRiders, who have consistently struck first during their recent run of form. However, the momentum proved short-lived.
Corpus Christi responded immediately in the bottom half of the first, erupting for four runs to erase the deficit and tie the game at 4-4. The rapid exchange of offense set the tone for a back-and-forth contest that remained tightly contested throughout the night.
Frisco regained the lead in the second inning when Dylan Dreiling delivered an RBI single, putting the RoughRiders back in front at 5-4. From there, the game settled into a pitching battle, with both teams struggling to generate sustained offense over the middle innings.
The Hooks broke through in the sixth inning. With runners in scoring position, Mason Lytle laced a two-run double into the gap, giving Corpus Christi its first lead of the night at 6-5 and shifting the momentum in favor of the home side.
Frisco answered in the following frame with a notable moment. In his first appearance with the club, Max Wagner provided an immediate impact, launching a solo home run to left field to tie the game at 6-6. The swing marked both a promising debut and Frisco’s third home run of the contest.
Despite the early offensive fireworks, the RoughRiders were unable to build on that momentum. Wagner’s home run represented Frisco’s only hit after the second inning, as the Hooks’ pitching staff settled in and limited further scoring opportunities.
That offensive lull set the stage for late-inning drama.
In the bottom of the ninth, with one out and the game still tied, Corpus Christi found its decisive moment. Facing Frisco reliever Ryan Lobus, Will Bush connected on a pitch and drove it deep to left-center field for a walk-off home run, sealing a 7-6 victory for the Hooks and bringing an abrupt end to Frisco’s winning streak.
Amilcar Chirinos recorded the final two outs for Corpus Christi to earn the win, while Lobus was charged with the loss.
Despite the result, several offensive highlights stood out for the RoughRiders. Joyce’s first-inning home run marked his fifth in just 12 games with the club, tying him for the team lead and underscoring his impact since joining the lineup. Frisco also extended its streak of scoring in the first inning to six consecutive games, a testament to its aggressive early-game approach.
However, the inability to sustain that production proved costly. After generating five runs in the first two innings, the RoughRiders were held largely in check for the remainder of the contest, allowing Corpus Christi to chip away and eventually capitalize.
For Frisco, the loss serves as a reminder of the fine margins in a competitive Texas League matchup. While the offense continues to demonstrate power and potential, consistency across all nine innings remains a key area for improvement.
The RoughRiders will look to bounce back in game four of the series Friday night, with right-hander Leandro Lopez scheduled to take the mound against Corpus Christi’s Brandon McPherson.
As the series continues, Frisco will aim to recapture the momentum that defined its recent winning streak — and turn early production into complete-game execution.
