Minnesota Monsters Join AF1 (Arena Football One) for 2026 Season
Arena Football One (AF1) is officially welcoming the Minnesota Monsters (formerly the Duluth Harbor Monsters) as its newest franchise, beginning with the 2026 season. Under new ownership, the two-time national champions are bringing their tradition of excellence, passion, and entertainment to the AF1 stage.
This move ensures the Monsters’ long-term future while providing fans across Minnesota with a team to rally behind.
“AF1 is thrilled to add the Minnesota Monsters to our lineup for the 2026 season,” said Commissioner Jeff Fisher. “From day one, our goal has been to bring fast-paced, high-energy football to fans everywhere. The Monsters represent exactly the kind of competitive spirit and community engagement we want in this league.”
Founded in 2024, AF1 has quickly become a destination for arena football fans nationwide. Its debut season in 2025 featured eight founding teams and a national television partnership with VICE TV. The Monsters will make their AF1 debut at Arena Football University in Chicago next week, where they’ll be introduced as part of the league’s 2026 expansion plans.
For the Monsters’ ownership group, joining AF1 was a carefully considered step.
“We explored every possible option, but ultimately this was about giving our community and our fans the best experience possible,” said co-owner Jake Lambert. “Duluth and the entire state of Minnesota deserve a team that represents them at the highest level.”
CEO and General Manager Steve Walters echoed that sentiment:
“This wasn’t just about football—it was about building something lasting for our fans. AF1 provides the best stage for us to grow, compete, and make an impact both on and off the field.”
The Minnesota Monsters, established in September 2025, are committed to creating a lasting legacy in Duluth and beyond. The team’s updated website and branding will launch ahead of the 2026 season, offering fans a new home to connect with Monsters Nation.
More details about the 2026 AF1 schedule will be released in the coming months.
