STWF Sports | FRISCO, Texas | July 28, 2026 — Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager is scheduled to begin a rehabilitation assignment with the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders on Tuesday night when they host the Corpus Christi Hooks at Riders Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. as Frisco opens its series against Corpus Christi, the Double-A affiliate of the Houston Astros. Seager’s expected appearance gives Rangers fans an opportunity to watch one of the most accomplished players in franchise history continue his recovery from lower back inflammation.
The Rangers placed Seager on the 10-day injured list July 1 after the condition interrupted his fifth season as the club’s primary shortstop. His upcoming assignment with Frisco represents the next step toward a potential return to the Texas lineup.
Seager, 32, has remained one of baseball’s premier offensive shortstops since joining the Rangers before the 2022 season. During his five years with Texas, he has produced an .854 on-base-plus-slugging percentage, the highest among qualified Major League shortstops over that span.
His combination of power, plate discipline and postseason experience has made him a central figure in the Rangers’ lineup. Seager’s biggest contribution came during Texas’ historic run to the 2023 World Series championship, the first title in franchise history.
Texas Rangers: A Legacy of Excellence
The five-time All-Star delivered one of the most memorable postseason performances in club history, batting .318 with six home runs across 17 games. He finished the postseason with 12 extra-base hits and 12 RBIs, matching his total of 12 strikeouts.
Seager homered in three of the five World Series games against the Arizona Diamondbacks and was named the series’ Most Valuable Player. The award made him only the fourth player in Major League Baseball history to earn World Series MVP honors more than once.
Before arriving in Texas, Seager spent seven seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He quickly established himself as one of the game’s top young infielders, winning National League Rookie of the Year honors in 2016.
Seager later helped the Dodgers capture the 2020 World Series championship, earning both National League Championship Series MVP and World Series MVP honors during the postseason run.
Tuesday’s appearance will mark Seager’s third rehabilitation assignment with the Rangers and his second of the 2026 season. He previously appeared in two games with Frisco during June, going 1-for-5 at the plate.
Seager also played three rehab games for the RoughRiders in 2023, collecting two hits in eight at-bats. His appearances with Frisco have provided the organization with a controlled environment in which to evaluate his timing, movement and comfort at the plate before activating him at the Major League level.
His recent time in Frisco marked his first Texas League action since 2015. That season, while playing in the Dodgers organization, Seager batted .375 with five home runs in 20 games for the Tulsa Drillers.
He made his Major League debut later that year and has since developed into one of the sport’s most productive and decorated shortstops.
For the RoughRiders, Seager’s presence adds significant attention to the beginning of a new homestand. Frisco fans will have the chance to watch an established Major League star compete alongside several of the Rangers’ top prospects.
