MLS Match Recap: FC Dallas Battles LAFC but Leaves Los Angeles Empty-Handed

STWF Sports | LOS ANGELES |March 7, 2026 — A disciplined performance and several promising individual moments were not enough for FC Dallas on Saturday night, as the visitors fell 1–0 to Los Angeles FC at BMO Stadium.

The result dropped Dallas to 1-1-1 (4 points) through its first three matches of the 2026 MLS season, while LAFC remained perfect at 3-0-0 (9 points). The defeat also continued Dallas’ difficult history in Los Angeles, with the club now 0-7-1 all-time at BMO Stadium against LAFC.

Despite the narrow scoreline, Dallas produced a competitive performance that created several opportunities while limiting LAFC’s attack for large stretches of the match. Ultimately, one decisive moment proved the difference as the hosts capitalized on a key scoring chance while Dallas struggled to convert its own.

Head coach Eric Quill praised his team’s approach following the match, emphasizing the aggressive style Dallas brought into one of the league’s toughest road environments.

“I’m extremely proud of my guys,” Quill said. “We deserved something from the game, but it comes down to moments. They had one more key moment than we did and they scored from a quality chance.”

Dallas entered the contest looking to build momentum following a scoreless draw against Nashville SC the previous week. Instead, the match developed into another tightly contested defensive battle.

One of the notable storylines for Dallas was the first start for Joaquín Valiente, the attacking midfielder who joined the club during the offseason. After making his debut as a substitute in the previous match, Valiente earned a spot in the starting lineup and provided creativity in the midfield as Dallas attempted to unlock LAFC’s defensive shape.

While the breakthrough never came, Valiente remained encouraged by the team’s overall effort.

“We felt like we were the protagonists in the game,” Valiente said. “We created clear chances, but unfortunately they didn’t go in.”

Defensively, Dallas relied heavily on goalkeeper Michael Collodi, who recorded four saves to keep the visitors within reach throughout the match. Collodi has started every match for Dallas this season and became the club’s first Homegrown goalkeeper to start three consecutive games since 2019.

The young goalkeeper’s composure helped stabilize the back line during several moments of LAFC pressure, particularly in the second half when the hosts attempted to extend their lead.

Another milestone moment for Dallas came in the 72nd minute when rookie Ricky Louis, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2026 MLS SuperDraft, made his Major League Soccer debut. Louis had impressed during preseason training and earned his opportunity off the bench as Dallas pushed for an equalizer late in the match.

“It feels great,” Louis said following the game. “Unfortunately we got the loss, but it was still an amazing experience. I’ve dreamed of this since I was a kid.”

The night also highlighted the continued development pipeline between Dallas and its MLS NEXT Pro affiliate North Texas SC. Goalkeeper Eryk Dymora joined the squad on a short-term loan, becoming the latest player promoted from the developmental system to the MLS roster.

While the result did not go Dallas’ way, Quill emphasized the positives from a performance that saw his side control significant stretches of play against one of the Western Conference’s strongest teams.

“LAFC is a really quality side,” Quill said. “But I’ve seen a lot of teams come here and not do what we did tonight. We were the aggressors and really controlled the game.”

Dallas will now return home to Toyota Stadium to face San Diego FC on March 14 in a match that will serve as the club’s next opportunity to translate promising performances into points.

For Dallas, the challenge moving forward will be turning encouraging displays into goals — and ensuring that strong efforts on the road ultimately produce results.
