MLS Recap: FC Dallas Claims 2-1 Road Victory Over Minnesota United Behind Kaick, Santiago Moreno Goals

STWF Sports| ST. PAUL, Minn.| September 9, 2026|  — FC Dallas continued its impressive road form Wednesday night, earning a 2-1 victory over Minnesota United FC at Allianz Field and strengthening its position in the Western Conference playoff race.

Dallas improved to 11-6-7 with 40 points, while Minnesota dropped to 7-9-8 with 29 points. Midfielders Kaick and Santiago Moreno provided the goals for FC Dallas, with Moreno delivering the decisive strike late in the second half.

The victory marked Dallas’ seventh road win of the season, the club’s most in a single campaign during the post-penalty shootout era. The franchise record remains eight road wins, set in 1997. FC Dallas also moved into second place in MLS for road victories this season, further highlighting the club’s ability to perform away from Toyota Stadium.

FC Dallas: A Force in the Western Conference

After a tightly contested opening hour, Dallas broke through in the 62nd minute. Kaick continued his recent scoring surge by finding the back of the net for the second straight match, giving FC Dallas a 1-0 advantage.

The goal was Kaick’s third of the season, establishing a new career high after previously topping out at two in a single campaign. His finish was set up by Joaquín Valiente, who recorded his 11th assist of the season.

Valiente’s production has placed him among notable names in club history. He became the first FC Dallas player since Michael Barrios recorded 16 assists in 2019 to surpass 10 assists in a season.

Minnesota remained within striking distance and eventually found a response, but Dallas’ depth proved decisive during the closing stages.

Moreno entered the match in the 76th minute and made his impact eight minutes later. In the 84th minute, the midfielder scored his third MLS goal of the season to restore Dallas’ advantage at 2-1.

The game-winning sequence was sparked by fellow substitute Sam Sarver, who entered just one minute before providing the assist. The quick contribution from the bench underlined another strong tactical night for head coach Eric Quill.

Quill praised his team’s defensive commitment and ability to capitalize when opportunities developed.

“Our collective unity behind the ball,” Quill said when asked what has been working for Dallas. “We defended beautifully tonight and found our moments to counter, we deserved to win.”

Moreno also pointed to the team’s growing confidence and postseason ambitions after the victory.

“From the first minute, you could see how badly we wanted to win,” Moreno said. “We knew it was going to be a very difficult game, but now we’re thinking about getting into the MLS playoffs with confidence and arriving there believing in ourselves.”

The road victory comes just days after Dallas earned its first win at the newly renovated Toyota Stadium against Sporting Kansas City. With momentum building, FC Dallas now turns its attention toward an important three-match home stretch.

Dallas will host the Portland Timbers, Austin FC and LAFC as the regular season moves deeper into its final phase.

Quill said the club intends to carry its current confidence back home.

“We want to keep going, we have ambitions,” he said. “These guys are playing with a purpose and we are going to keep that purpose on Saturday as well.”

FC Dallas returns to Toyota Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 12, to face the Portland Timbers. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT.
