MLS Recap: Osaze Urhoghide’s Header Lifts FC Dallas Past LAFC, Extends Unbeaten Run to Six

STWF Sports| FRISCO, Texas| September 26, 2026 — FC Dallas continued its climb up the Western Conference table Saturday night, earning a hard-fought 1-0 victory over LAFC at Toyota Stadium behind a first-half goal from defender Osaze Urhoghide.

The win pushed Dallas to 13-6-8 with 47 points, extended the club’s unbeaten streak to six matches and moved FC Dallas into second place in the Western Conference.

In a match that required patience, discipline and a willingness to win physical battles, Dallas finally broke through on a set piece.

Midfielder Joaquín Valiente delivered a corner kick that found Urhoghide, who rose above the defense and powered home the game-winning header. The goal was Urhoghide’s second of the season, matching his career high from 2025.

The finish also reflected an area where Dallas has been especially dangerous this season. FC Dallas now ranks second in MLS with nine headed goals and has scored four times from corner kicks.

Urhoghide’s impact went beyond the goal. He continues to lead Dallas in several defensive categories, including aerial duels, clearances and challenges, making his contribution on both ends of the field especially valuable in a match that remained tight throughout.

Valiente Continues to Create

Valiente’s assist was his 13th of the season, moving him into a tie for third in club history for assists in a single campaign alongside Jason Kreis, David Ferreira and Mauro Díaz.

Dallas is now 9-0-1 when Valiente records an assist, and the midfielder has registered one in eight of the club’s last 11 matches.

His service on the game-winning corner provided the decisive moment on a night when LAFC sat deep and made open-play chances difficult to create.

Head coach Eric Quill praised his team’s persistence afterward, noting that Dallas needed to remain patient against a compact defensive setup.

“Sometimes you need a set piece,” Quill said. “Osaze Urhoghide scored a beautiful header on the set piece, and that forced them to extend their lines and play a little more.”

Sirois Marks Milestone With Shutout

Goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois made his 100th MLS regular-season appearance and celebrated the milestone with three saves and his second shutout victory for Dallas.

The clean sheet also gave FC Dallas back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 2024.

Sirois, acquired from CF Montréal in February, now has seven wins in 11 appearances this season and again provided stability behind a defense that handled LAFC’s late pressure.

Quill called the result a complete team performance and highlighted the work of the substitutes who helped close out the match.

That included Daniel Job, who made his MLS debut in the 80th minute.

Job Makes Immediate Impression

Job became the 11th player to make his FC Dallas debut this season and quickly showed flashes of the qualities that brought him to North Texas.

He drew a yellow card and a foul near the top of the box while also playing vertically through pressure.

Quill said the brief appearance offered an encouraging glimpse of what Job can add moving forward.

“You saw what DJ can do,” Quill said. “There’s more to come from DJ.”

Job said he enjoyed making his debut in front of the home crowd and praised the atmosphere inside Toyota Stadium.

Dallas Keeps Building

The victory gives FC Dallas another positive result heading into the upcoming international break.

Valiente emphasized that the team’s depth and internal competition have become important factors in the club’s rise in the standings.

“We have a very complete team that works extremely hard,” Valiente said. “There’s a very healthy internal competition, and I think that’s what ultimately gave us the victory.”

Dallas will return to action on Oct. 10 against Charlotte FC at Bank of America Stadium.

For now, FC Dallas heads into the break unbeaten in six, second in the West and continuing to show the consistency Quill has emphasized throughout the season.
