NBA News: Suns Forward Dillon Brooks Charged With DUI Following March Arrest in Scottsdale

STWF Sports| PHOENIX| October 1, 2026  — Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks has been charged with driving under the influence stemming from a March arrest in Scottsdale, Arizona, adding another legal matter for the veteran ahead of the 2026-27 NBA season.

Dillon Brooks: Legal Challenges Ahead

According to court records, Brooks was formally charged with a Class 1 misdemeanor DUI and is scheduled to be arraigned on Oct. 28. The charge is connected to a March 6 traffic stop in Scottsdale.

Brooks, 30, was arrested at approximately 1 a.m. after being stopped by Scottsdale police. He was later booked and released several hours later. At the time of the arrest, reporting indicated that authorities suspected marijuana impairment rather than alcohol.

The Suns acknowledged the charge in a statement from senior vice president of communications Stacey Mitch.

“This charge stems from the incident last March,” Mitch said. “We have addressed the matter with Dillon and have no further comment.”

Brooks’ representatives had not publicly responded to requests for comment as of the initial reports.

The legal development arrives as Brooks prepares for his 10th NBA season and the beginning of a new long-term commitment with Phoenix. During the offseason, he agreed to a three-year, $73 million contract extension that runs through the 2029-30 season.

On the court, Brooks is coming off the most productive scoring season of his career. He averaged a career-high 20.2 points per game last season while appearing in 56 games for Phoenix. Across his NBA career with the Memphis Grizzlies, Houston Rockets and Suns, he has averaged 14.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.

Brooks’ pending DUI case is not his only current legal matter in Scottsdale.

He is also facing separate misdemeanor reckless driving and speeding charges connected to a January traffic stop. That case is moving closer to trial, with a trial readiness conference scheduled for Nov. 9. Court reporting indicates the January matter includes allegations that Brooks was driving significantly above the posted speed limit.

The two cases are being handled separately.

For Phoenix, the timing places Brooks’ legal proceedings alongside the early portion of the regular season. His Oct. 28 arraignment is scheduled shortly after the Suns begin their 2026-27 campaign.

Brooks has become an important part of Phoenix’s rotation, bringing scoring, perimeter defense and a physical playing style. His new extension further reflects the organization’s long-term investment in the veteran forward.

At this stage, the DUI charge remains an allegation and has not resulted in a conviction.

The next significant legal step is expected later this month when Brooks appears for his scheduled arraignment on Oct. 28. His separate reckless driving and speeding case is set to continue in November.
