STWF Sports| FORT WORTH, Texas| August 30, 2026 — Former TCU safety Jacob Fields was arrested Sunday on a charge of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury stemming from an alleged locker room altercation involving Horned Frogs wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma earlier this month.
Fields’ agent, Philip Miller, told ESPN that his client turned himself in to authorities and was being held at the Tarrant County Jail in Fort Worth. Miller said Fields was expected to be released on bond Sunday.
The arrest comes nearly two weeks after TCU dismissed Fields from the football program on Aug. 18 for what the school described as a violation of team rules.

According to reports, the incident occurred Aug. 13 inside TCU’s locker room. Fields is accused of punching Ezukanma following a team practice. TCU’s general manager reported the incident to police the following day.
Ezukanma later addressed the confrontation in a since-deleted Instagram video, reportedly saying that he had been struck unexpectedly and lost consciousness after his head hit the floor. The wide receiver also questioned why a disagreement stemming from competition at practice would escalate into an alleged physical confrontation.
The allegations have disrupted what had been expected to be an important season for both players and the Horned Frogs.
Ezukanma did not travel with TCU for its season-opening appearance in Dublin, Ireland, where the Horned Frogs suffered a 15-10 loss to North Carolina in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic on Saturday.
TCU head coach Sonny Dykes addressed the situation while speaking with reporters in Ireland earlier in the week. Dykes characterized the incident as unusual for the program while emphasizing the challenge of managing a large roster and using difficult situations as opportunities for growth.
“It was something that was certainly out of character for the team and the young man that was involved,” Dykes said. “You got 110 football players. Things happen sometimes. You’ve got to find ways to move through them.”
Dykes added that adversity can provide important lessons for young athletes as a team works to move forward.
Fields had joined TCU as a transfer following two seasons at Louisiana Tech, where he developed into one of Conference USA’s top defensive players.
Last season, Fields earned Conference USA Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors after leading Louisiana Tech with 92 tackles. He also recorded 2.5 tackles for loss and three interceptions, establishing himself as a productive and experienced presence in the secondary.
His arrival in Fort Worth was viewed as a significant addition for a TCU defense looking to replace former standout safety Bud Clark, who was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the second round of the NFL Draft. Fields entered preseason preparations as a leading candidate to take over a prominent role in the Horned Frogs’ secondary.
Instead, his tenure with the program ended before he appeared in a regular-season game for TCU.
The case now moves into the legal process while the Horned Frogs continue their season without Fields. An arrest and criminal charge are allegations and do not constitute a finding of guilt. Fields is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty in court.
For TCU, the focus shifts back to football following a difficult opening weekend and an off-field situation that has affected the program during the earliest stages of the 2026 season.
