Nicholls State used a balanced offensive attack and timely pitching to sweep its Friday slate at the Troy Invitational, defeating Kennesaw State 12-2 in five innings before edging host Troy 6-5 in a late thriller.
The Colonels opened the day with an offensive explosion against Kennesaw State. Nicholls scored 12 runs on 10 hits and took advantage of free passes and aggressive baserunning to secure a run-rule victory in five innings.
Madison Moak led the way at the plate with two hits, an RBI, and a run scored, helping spark the Colonels’ early momentum. Claire Sisco delivered an RBI double, while Reagan Heflin added an RBI and crossed the plate twice. Liliana Robledo and Brynne Songy each contributed key hits as Nicholls steadily built its advantage throughout the contest.
After controlling the early innings, Nicholls sealed the win with a big frame that put the game out of reach. The pitching staff limited Kennesaw State to just two runs, keeping traffic minimal and preserving the shortened victory.
In the nightcap, the Colonels showed resilience against the host Trojans in a tightly contested 6-5 win.
Moak once again paced the offense with two hits, an RBI, and a run scored. Sisco delivered in clutch situations, finishing with two hits and two RBIs. Heflin drove in a run and scored, while Robledo, Songy, Erin Krause, and Kayleigh Lugowski all contributed offensively in a well-rounded team effort.
Nicholls built an early lead, but Troy battled back to make things interesting late. The Trojans mounted a seventh-inning rally, trimming the deficit and putting pressure on the Colonels’ defense. However, Nicholls held firm, executing in key moments to secure the one-run victory.
With the pair of wins, Nicholls improved its overall record and carried strong momentum deeper into the weekend tournament. The Colonels displayed power at the plate, situational hitting, and composure in close-game scenarios — qualities that continue to define their early-season success.
