The Nicholls Colonels softball team wrapped up play at the Alabama State Tournament on Friday and Saturday with a 2–2 overall record, showing resilience by bouncing back from a challenging opening day to close the weekend with two convincing victories.
After dropping a pair of games on Friday, Nicholls responded with an offensive surge on Saturday, outscoring its opponents 23–7 and collecting 25 hits across the final two games.
Friday Recap
Nicholls opened tournament play with an 8–2 loss to Lindenwood. The Colonels recorded seven hits but were unable to overcome a five-run second inning by Lindenwood. Claire Sisco and Reagan Heflin each finished with two hits, while Nicholls left 12 runners on base.
Later in the day, Nicholls faced Murray State in a tightly contested matchup. The Colonels held a 2–1 lead after three innings behind an RBI double from Laylin Sturm. Murray State, however, rallied with three runs in the seventh inning to pull away for a 5–2 win.
Saturday Bounce-Back
Nicholls’ offense came alive on Saturday, starting with a 14–6 win over host Alabama State. The Colonels scored 11 runs over the second and third innings, taking control early and never looking back. Nicholls finished the game with 15 hits and capitalized on multiple Alabama State miscues.
Madison Moak led the offensive charge, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs. Laylin Sturm, Claire Sisco, Lilianna Robledo, and Brynne Songy each contributed RBIs. In the circle, Ashley Little earned the win, striking out three over 4.2 innings.
Nicholls carried that momentum into the tournament finale, defeating Southern Indiana 9–1 in five innings to earn a run-rule victory. The Colonels jumped out early with three runs in the first inning and added three more in the second to put the game out of reach.
Lilianna Robledo drove in three runs, while Erin Krause added multiple hits. Averi Paden picked up the win in the circle, allowing just one run over four innings of work.
