NFL News: New Orleans Saints Secure Chris Olave With Four-Year Extension Through 2030

STWF Sports | NEW ORLEANS | July 30, 2026 — The New Orleans Saints have secured one of the centerpieces of their offense for the long term, agreeing to a four-year contract extension with wide receiver Chris Olave.

The deal is worth up to $132 million and includes $90 million guaranteed, according to Olave’s representatives, Drew Rosenhaus and Jason Rosenhaus. New Orleans confirmed the extension but did not release the financial details.

Olave is now under contract through the 2030 season, ending nearly a year of negotiations between the organization and its top receiver. The former Ohio State standout was preparing to play the 2026 campaign on his fifth-year option before the sides finalized the agreement.

The contract represents the Saints’ largest commitment to a wide receiver since Michael Thomas signed a five-year extension in 2019 that was valued at up to $20 million annually at the time.

For New Orleans, the move provides stability around one of the NFL’s most productive young pass-catchers. Olave has been a major part of the Saints’ offensive identity since the club selected him in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

The agreement also brings an end to Olave’s brief training camp “hold-in.” He attended the Saints’ first two practices and participated in individual drills and walk-through periods, but his workload remained limited while contract negotiations continued.

Saints head coach Kellen Moore emphasized the importance of communication while the team and Olave worked through the business side of the situation.

Moore acknowledged that contract discussions can temporarily overlap with football preparation, but he expressed confidence that everyone involved remained focused on the same long-term goals.

Olave had otherwise been an active participant throughout the offseason. He was involved in most of the team’s practices leading into training camp and publicly expressed optimism during organized team activities that a new agreement would be completed without disrupting the offense’s development.

The extension follows a challenging period in Olave’s career involving multiple health concerns.

His participation was limited earlier in the offseason after he developed a blood clot during the final week of the previous season and was placed on blood-thinning medication. Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said before training camp that Olave had received full medical clearance.

Loomis praised the receiver’s attitude and professionalism throughout the process, describing him as enthusiastic, optimistic and consistently positive within the organization.

Olave’s medical history also includes at least two known concussions during the 2024 season. He missed the final eight games of that campaign after suffering a head injury against the Carolina Panthers on Nov. 10, 2024.

The injury prompted Olave to consult outside specialists, and he briefly considered stepping away from football before deciding to continue his career. He returned healthy in 2025 and responded with his most productive professional season.

Olave caught 100 passes for 1,163 yards and nine touchdowns in 16 games, establishing career highs while reaffirming his place among the league’s leading receivers.

His performance strengthened his case for a long-term agreement, although Loomis acknowledged that Olave’s health history remained one of several factors considered during negotiations.

The contract also reflects the trust built between Olave and the franchise. Following the 2025 season, he expressed appreciation for the Saints’ support through his medical challenges and reiterated his desire to remain in New Orleans.

The Saints traded up to select Olave in 2022, viewing his route-running, speed and consistency as foundational qualities for their passing attack. Four seasons later, the organization has made its commitment unmistakable.

With the contract negotiations resolved, Olave can return to full football activities and focus on building chemistry within Moore’s offense. His presence gives New Orleans a proven No. 1 receiver and a long-term building block as the franchise shapes its next competitive window.

For Olave, the extension provides financial security and confirms that New Orleans remains the place where both sides intend to pursue their future success.
