NFL Week 8 Preview: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Aim to Tighten Division Grip Against Struggling New Orleans Saints

NEW ORLEANS, La. (Oct. 26, 2025) — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-2) travel to the Caesars Superdome on Sunday to face the New Orleans Saints (1-6) in a pivotal NFC South showdown. Kickoff is set for 4:05 p.m. ET on FOX, with Tampa Bay entering as 4.5-point favorites and the over/under set at 46.5 points.

While Tampa Bay looks to continue its strong start and extend its lead atop the division, New Orleans is simply searching for a spark. The Saints are mired in a five-game losing streak and rank near the bottom of the league in both scoring offense and total defense.

Buccaneers Riding Momentum Into the Dome

The Buccaneers have built a reputation for balance and resilience under head coach Todd Bowles, and their 5-2 record reflects a team that knows how to win close, physical games. Quarterback Baker Mayfield is quietly putting together one of the most efficient seasons of his career, ranking sixth in the NFL with 1,767 passing yards and seventh with 13 touchdown passes against just two interceptions.

Mayfield has shown improved command of the offense, spreading the ball effectively while using his legs when necessary. His 64.1% completion rate and 252.4 passing yards per game highlight the confidence and rhythm he’s found in his second season at the helm of the Tampa Bay offense.

“Baker’s leadership and maturity are driving this team,” Bowles said earlier this week. “He’s protecting the football and making smart decisions — that’s what’s keeping us in games.”

Rookie wideout Emeka Egbuka has quickly become Mayfield’s favorite target, emerging as one of the league’s top young receivers. The former Ohio State standout ranks seventh in the NFL with 527 receiving yards and has already scored five touchdowns, showcasing big-play ability and elite route running.

The backfield duo of Rachaad White and Bucky Irving has complemented the passing attack with efficiency. White has four rushing touchdowns this season, while Irving’s versatility as a receiver out of the backfield — 19 receptions for 193 yards and two touchdowns — has added another dimension to Tampa Bay’s offense.

Tampa Bay’s Defense Still Setting the Tone

The Buccaneers’ defense continues to thrive under Bowles’ aggressive, blitz-heavy system. Linebacker Tykee Smith leads the team with 58 tackles, four tackles for loss, and two sacks, while veteran Lavonte David remains as steady as ever with 47 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and an interception.

Up front, YaYa Diaby and SirVocea Dennis have been relentless, combining for seven sacks and 10 tackles for loss this season. Tampa Bay’s front seven ranks among the league’s best in stopping the run, allowing opponents just 3.8 yards per carry.

That physicality will be crucial against a Saints offense that has struggled to sustain drives and protect the football.

“We take pride in being the enforcers,” David said. “Division games are always about who controls the line of scrimmage, and that’s our job every week.”

Saints Searching for Answers

For head coach Kellen Moore and the New Orleans Saints, this season has been one frustration after another. Sitting at 1-6, the Saints have dropped five straight and have yet to find consistency on either side of the ball.

Rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler has shown flashes of potential, but turnovers and stalled drives have plagued the offense. Rattler has thrown for over 200 yards in back-to-back games but has also tossed multiple interceptions during that span. His chemistry with Chris Olave, who has been the lone bright spot with 584 receiving yards and five touchdowns, will be vital if New Orleans hopes to keep pace with Tampa Bay.

The Saints’ defense — typically the team’s strength — has regressed this season, giving up an average of 27.1 points per game. Despite solid performances from veteran leaders Cameron Jordan and Demario Davis, the unit has struggled to get off the field on third down and generate turnovers.

“We’re in a hole, but the only way out is to fight,” Moore said this week. “We have to execute better, especially in critical situations.”

Keys to Victory

For Tampa Bay, the formula remains simple: protect Mayfield, get early stops on defense, and let their stars dictate the tempo. If Egbuka and White continue to produce, the Buccaneers should be able to control the game and wear down a Saints defense that’s struggled with time of possession all year.

For New Orleans, a fast start is essential. Falling behind early against Tampa Bay’s defense would spell disaster. The Saints will need to lean on short passes, quick reads, and efficient red-zone execution to stay competitive.

Prediction: Buccaneers 29, Saints 18

Tampa Bay is too disciplined, too balanced, and too well-coached to stumble against a struggling division rival. Expect Mayfield to stay hot and Egbuka to continue his breakout campaign, while the Buccaneers’ defense forces Rattler into mistakes.

With a fifth win in six games, the Buccaneers would further strengthen their grip atop the NFC South, while the Saints’ season continues to spiral.

Pick ATS: Buccaneers (-4.5)
Pick O/U: Over (46.5)
Projected Final Score: Buccaneers 29, Saints 18
