Colonels Sweep Grambling, Off to Best Start Since 2021

GRAMBLING, La. – The Nicholls State University volleyball team continued its strong start to the 2025 campaign with a straight-set sweep over Grambling on Tuesday night, improving to 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-23) for the first time since 2021.
The Colonels’ offense shined, producing 10 more kills than the Tigers and hitting an impressive .407 in the decisive third set to lock up their second consecutive sweep.
Setter Isabella Padilla directed the attack with 28 assists, while Karina Smith added six assists and a team-high six service aces.
Offensively, Tierney Terrell led the way with 12 kills. She was supported by Madison Smith (9), Tamara Chavez (6), and both Harper Holden and Ana Clara Valentim do Vale with four apiece.
Defensively, Nicholls stifled Grambling, holding the Tigers to a .050 hitting percentage and negative marks in the opening two sets. The back row effort was anchored by Madison Smith, Ava-Claire Calais, and Karina Smith, who each tallied nine digs.
At the net, the Colonels were dominant, recording 16 total blocks. Holden led with five, followed by Chavez and Valentim do Vale with three each. Terrell and Madison Smith contributed two apiece, while Padilla chipped in a block along with seven digs.
What’s Next
Nicholls travels to Nashville this weekend to compete in the Belmont Invitational, where they’ll face Tennessee State, Belmont, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
