The New Orleans Pelicans’ NBA G League affiliate is set to relocate to Kenner, Louisiana, with plans for the team to play games at the Pontchartrain Center in the city. The Kenner City Council recently passed a resolution supporting the move, marking a major step in bringing the franchise closer to the New Orleans area.
Currently, the Pelicans’ G League team is known as the Birmingham Squadron and is based in Birmingham, Alabama, where it has played at Legacy Arena since 2021. It’s affiliated with the New Orleans Pelicans and serves as a developmental squad in the NBA’s official minor-league system.
Relocating the team to Kenner would bring NBA G League basketball into Jefferson Parish and provide local fans with easier access to live games while keeping the affiliate closer to its parent club. Details such as the timing of the move, season schedule, and operational plans are still expected to be finalized as stakeholders in Kenner and the organization work through logistics and facility arrangements at the Pontchartrain Center.
