Poirier Bids Farewell to UFC In Louisiana

Max Holloway spoiled Dustin Poirier’s retirement bout with a career-defining performance, earning a hard-fought victory in the UFC 318 main event and avenging his previous losses to Poirier.

In a grueling battle that stretched the full 25 minutes, Holloway and Poirier traded knockdowns in a back-and-forth war of attrition. Ultimately, Holloway’s consistent pressure and damage output proved decisive, allowing him to edge ahead in the trilogy.

The judges scored the contest 49-46, 49-46, and 48-47 in favor of Holloway, who retained the “BMF” title and added one of the most meaningful wins to his already storied resume.

“I love you, Louisiana. I know I had to be the villain,” Holloway said in his post-fight interview. “I’m so sorry, but thank you guys for the hospitality. A lot of people are coming for this ‘BMF’ belt—come get me. I’ve got some history with the champ, so UFC, your move.”

Still, Holloway made sure to redirect the spotlight.

“This isn’t my moment. I’m done talking. This was Dustin’s retirement fight. Give it up for the man.”

The emotion was palpable as Poirier laid his gloves in the center of the octagon, signaling the end of a remarkable career.

“This whole week has been overwhelming,” Poirier said. “I feel appreciated. I feel seen. I’ve never had the chance to step outside of fighting and reflect. I’ve always been grinding—trying to provide for my family and chase the next goal. But this week, I got to look at it all differently.

“I didn’t realize how many people I touched just by chasing my dreams. I’m forever grateful. I love you all.”

Dustin Poirier retires as one of the most respected and beloved figures in MMA history, closing the chapter with one final battle against a fellow legend.
