STWF Sports| PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas| (November 15, 2025) — The Prairie View A&M Panthers left no doubt about who runs the SWAC West. Behind a relentless offensive attack and a smothering defense, PVAMU crushed the Arkansas–Pine Bluff Golden Lions 56–9 on Saturday afternoon at Panther Stadium to clinch the 2025 Southwestern Athletic Conference Western Division Championship.
With the win, Prairie View improves to 8–3 overall and 6–1 in SWAC play, securing its first division title since 2021 and booking its ticket to the SWAC Championship Game. The Panthers will host Mississippi Valley State next weekend for Senior Night before turning their attention to the league’s crown jewel matchup.
Panthers Dominate From Start to Finish
It was another statement victory for head coach Bubba McDowell and his team, who looked every bit like a championship contender on both sides of the ball. Quarterback Cameron Peters orchestrated the offense to near perfection, completing 20 of 24 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns without turning the ball over.
The senior signal-caller distributed the ball efficiently, attacking UAPB’s defense at every level. Cameron Bonner highlighted the passing game with a 65-yard touchdown bomb, while leading receiver Jyzaiah Rockwell added five receptions for 67 yards, continuing his consistent campaign as one of the SWAC’s most reliable playmakers.
“We wanted to come out fast and execute early,” Peters said postgame. “Coach [McDowell] told us to set the tone, and that’s what we did. Everyone was locked in — it was a complete team win.”
On the ground, Prairie View showcased the kind of physicality that has defined its season. Chase Bingmon was unstoppable, rushing for 135 yards and two touchdowns on just 15 carries, averaging an eye-popping 9.0 yards per rush. Lamagea McDowell added two scores of his own, and Shadrick Byrd chipped in 37 yards as the Panthers gashed the Golden Lions’ front seven for 288 rushing yards.
By the end of the afternoon, Prairie View had rolled up a staggering 644 total yards of offense — 356 through the air and 288 on the ground — while averaging nearly 10 yards per play.
Defense Seals the Deal
As dominant as the offense was, Prairie View’s defense proved equally impressive. The Panthers allowed just nine points and held Pine Bluff to under 200 total yards for the second straight week.
Linebacker Cornelius Davis led the charge with eight tackles, while Kamren Amao filled the stat sheet with five tackles, one sack, one tackle for loss, and an interception that he returned deep into UAPB territory. That takeaway set up one of PVAMU’s five red-zone touchdowns, underscoring the defense’s ability to generate momentum-shifting plays.
“Our defense played lights-out,” said McDowell. “They’ve been flying around all season, and today was another example of how well we can play when we communicate and execute our game plan.”
The Panthers’ front seven consistently collapsed the pocket, forcing hurried throws and limiting the Golden Lions to just 2.1 yards per carry. The lone UAPB touchdown came late in the second quarter — long after the game’s outcome was no longer in doubt.
How It Happened
Prairie View wasted no time establishing dominance. The Panthers opened the scoring midway through the first quarter with a 13-yard touchdown run by Bingmon and added another score moments later after forcing a quick three-and-out.
By halftime, the Panthers led 28–9, and the second half was all Prairie View. The offense erupted for 28 unanswered points, including a 21-point fourth quarter that buried any chance of a Pine Bluff comeback.
PVAMU’s efficiency was unmatched — the team went a perfect 5-for-5 in the red zone, with all five drives ending in touchdowns. Their time-of-possession edge (33:24 to 26:36) further highlighted how Prairie View dictated the pace from start to finish.
Panthers Set Eyes on SWAC Championship
With the win, Prairie View officially secured the SWAC Western Division title, ensuring a trip to the conference championship game for the first time under McDowell. The victory also marks the Panthers’ fifth straight win, the longest active streak in the division.
The Panthers will now look to carry their momentum into Senior Night next Saturday when they host Mississippi Valley State. A win there would give Prairie View its first nine-win season since 2017 and send them into the SWAC Championship as one of the hottest teams in the country.
“We’ve still got work to do,” McDowell said. “We’ll celebrate this one, but our goal is bigger. We want that trophy — and we’re not done yet.”
