Prairie View A&M Rolls in SWAC Clash, Outgains Alabama A&M Bulldogs by 400 Yards

STWF | HUNTSVILLE, Ala.| Nov. 8, 2025  — The Prairie View A&M Panthers put together their most complete performance of the season Saturday afternoon, dismantling Alabama A&M 48–5 in a one-sided Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) showdown at Louis Crews Stadium.

Behind an explosive passing performance from Cameron Peters and a record-setting day from Jyzaiah Rockwell, Prairie View (7–3, 5–1 SWAC) turned a slow start into an offensive showcase that overwhelmed the Bulldogs on their home turf.

The win keeps Prairie View firmly in the hunt for the SWAC West crown, while Alabama A&M (4–6, 1–5 SWAC) continues to spiral, now having dropped three straight conference matchups.

A Statement Performance from the Panthers’ Offense

Quarterback Cameron Peters was nearly flawless from start to finish. The junior signal-caller completed 17-of-22 passes (77.3%) for 394 yards and five touchdowns, averaging an eye-popping 17.9 yards per attempt without throwing an interception.

His efficiency and command were evident early, spreading the ball around to multiple targets but leaning heavily on his top receiver Jyzaiah Rockwell, who was simply unstoppable. The senior wideout hauled in eight receptions for 183 yards and three touchdowns, torching the Bulldogs’ secondary on deep routes and yards after the catch.

Rockwell’s third touchdown — a 51-yard bomb midway through the third quarter — put the game completely out of reach and marked his second straight 150-yard receiving game.

“It felt like everything was clicking today,” Rockwell said after the win. “Cameron was putting it right on the money, and Coach [Bubba McDowell] told us to stay aggressive all four quarters. We did exactly that.”

Ground Game Finds Its Rhythm

While the air attack stole the spotlight, the Panthers’ rushing game was quietly dominant. Shadrick Byrd carried the load with 75 yards and one touchdown on 11 carries, averaging 6.8 yards per attempt. Chase Bingmon added another 39 yards on the ground, giving Prairie View a balanced offensive approach that racked up 607 total yards — their highest mark of the season.

Andre Dennis (89 yards) and Chaney Fitzgerald (56 yards, 1 TD) also contributed through the air as Prairie View averaged a remarkable 10.0 yards per play.

Offensive coordinator Mark Frederick praised the unit’s balance: “When you can move the ball both ways, you make defenses play on their heels. That’s the kind of versatility we’ve been working toward all year.”

Defense Sets the Tone

The Panthers’ defense matched the offense’s intensity, holding Alabama A&M to just 204 total yards and a mere 5 points — all of which came early in the first quarter. After giving up a safety and a field goal to trail 5–0, the defense slammed the door shut.

From that point forward, Prairie View’s defensive front dominated the trenches, limiting the Bulldogs to 103 rushing yards and just 101 passing yards. The Panthers registered multiple stops on third down, holding Alabama A&M to 7-of-21 conversions.

Trinity Ward anchored the defensive effort with eight tackles, while Travor Randle added four tackles and a tackle for loss. Ashton Ojiaku also made his presence felt with consistent pressure that disrupted the Bulldogs’ offensive rhythm.

How It Happened

After a slow start, Prairie View A&M took control late in the second quarter. With 5:14 remaining in the half, Ja’Koby Banks broke loose for a 39-yard touchdown, giving the Panthers a 7–5 lead — one they would never relinquish.

The floodgates opened from there. Prairie View scored again just before halftime to make it 13–5, then exploded for 21 points in the fourth quarter to cap off the blowout.

By the final whistle, the Panthers had outgained Alabama A&M by more than 400 yards, turned three red-zone trips into touchdowns, and posted their largest margin of victory in conference play since 2019.

Coach McDowell: “We’re Playing Our Best Football”

Head coach Bubba McDowell was all smiles after the win, crediting his team’s maturity and focus down the stretch.

“This was the most complete game we’ve played all season,” McDowell said. “Our quarterback was sharp, our receivers made plays, and our defense didn’t let up. That’s championship football.”

McDowell also emphasized discipline, pointing out the team’s limited penalties and efficient third-down execution (5-of-9).

With the win, Prairie View remains in striking distance of a SWAC Championship berth and continues to build momentum as the regular season nears its conclusion.

Up Next

Prairie View A&M returns home next weekend for a critical SWAC matchup that could decide postseason positioning. Alabama A&M, meanwhile, will try to regroup on the road after another frustrating loss.

If Saturday was any indication, Prairie View is peaking at the perfect time — and no one in the SWAC wants to face this team right now.
