PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (November 15, 2025) — The stage is set at Panther Stadium as Prairie View A&M returns home for one of its most important games of the 2025 season — a SWAC West Division showdown with Arkansas–Pine Bluff that could shape the conference championship picture.
At 7–3 overall and 5–1 in SWAC play, the Panthers are in control of their own destiny atop the division standings. A win on Saturday would solidify their spot heading into the final week, while a loss could throw the race wide open.
Meanwhile, the Golden Lions (3–7, 2–4 SWAC) arrive in Texas looking to play spoiler, hoping to close their season with an upset that would send shockwaves across the league.
Panthers Rolling With Momentum
Prairie View A&M enters this weekend on the heels of one of its most dominant performances in recent memory — a 48–5 rout of Alabama A&M in Huntsville. The Panthers looked unstoppable on both sides of the ball, setting season highs in points, total offense, and defensive stops.
Senior quarterback Cameron Peters was surgical, completing passes all over the field en route to 394 yards and five touchdowns, marking one of the best individual outings of his collegiate career. His precision and poise have been the hallmark of Prairie View’s recent surge, with the veteran QB commanding an offense that has averaged 35.6 points per game during its last five outings.
Wide receiver Jyzaiah Rockwell continued his breakout campaign, torching Alabama A&M’s secondary with big plays downfield. The junior has emerged as Peters’ go-to target and one of the most dynamic playmakers in the SWAC, using his speed and route-running to create mismatches against opposing corners.
“We’ve got great chemistry,” Peters said. “When our offense is clicking like that, we’re hard to stop. Everyone’s doing their job, and it shows on the scoreboard.”
Defensive Dominance Defines Prairie View’s Identity
While the offensive fireworks have captured headlines, the Panther defense has quietly developed into one of the conference’s most disruptive units. Against Alabama A&M, Prairie View allowed just five points and fewer than 200 total yards, smothering the Bulldogs’ rushing attack and forcing multiple three-and-outs.
Led by a fast, physical front seven, the Panthers have shown an ability to pressure quarterbacks and close gaps quickly in space. Linebacker Trenton Barnes and defensive end Darian Hill have been instrumental, combining for over 10 sacks and 20 tackles for loss this season.
In their last three games, Prairie View has surrendered an average of just 12.6 points per contest, a drastic improvement from early-season struggles.
“Our defense is flying around, communicating, and playing disciplined football,” head coach Bubba McDowell said. “That’s what championship-level teams do. We’re finally seeing that consistency.”
Scouting the Opponent: Arkansas–Pine Bluff Golden Lions
The Golden Lions may not be in the SWAC title race, but they’ve proven to be a tough out for anyone. Last week, UAPB fell 27–21 to Texas Southern, a game that came down to the final possession. The Lions have shown flashes of potential throughout the season, led by quarterback Keyshawn Hall, who has thrown for 1,800 yards and 12 touchdowns while adding mobility in the pocket.
Running back Taylen Morrow gives Pine Bluff balance, while wide receiver Kenny Langston remains one of the most consistent targets in the conference. However, the Lions have struggled on defense, allowing over 31 points per game and ranking near the bottom of the SWAC in rushing defense.
If Prairie View establishes early momentum through its aerial attack, UAPB could have trouble keeping up on the scoreboard.
Series History & What’s at Stake
The Panthers and Golden Lions share a rivalry that dates back to 1951, with Prairie View holding the upper hand in recent years. PVAMU has won four of the last five meetings, including a decisive 34–13 victory in their most recent encounter.
This year’s matchup carries extra weight, as Prairie View aims to maintain its grip on the SWAC West and earn a shot at the conference championship. A victory would mark the program’s best conference record since 2021 and further establish the Panthers as one of the league’s elite teams under McDowell’s leadership.
“We’ve talked all week about finishing,” McDowell said. “We can’t take anyone lightly — not in this league. Every week matters, and this one’s no different.”
Prediction: Panthers Stay Hot at Home
With Peters in rhythm, Rockwell in peak form, and the defense playing at an elite level, Prairie View looks well-equipped to protect its home turf. Arkansas–Pine Bluff’s offensive potential could make things interesting early, but Prairie View’s balance and execution should prove too much over four quarters.
Prediction: Prairie View A&M 41, Arkansas–Pine Bluff 17
The Panthers stay in control of the SWAC West — and one step closer to their ultimate goal of a championship return.
