SAN ANTONIO, Texas (June 17, 2025) — The Frisco RoughRiders watched a narrow lead slip away in a decisive sixth inning Tuesday night, falling 4-2 to the San Antonio Missions at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium. In a showdown with major Texas League South Division implications, Frisco (36-27) couldn’t hold off a furious San Antonio rally, allowing their division lead to shrink to just a half-game.
Frisco got on the board first in the top of the fifth when Sebastian Walcott continued his torrid stretch at the plate with a two-run single to center with the bases loaded. It was Walcott’s fourth RBI over his last 10 games, during which he’s hitting .333 and striking out just once.
But the lead didn’t last long.
The Missions (36-28) answered in the bottom of the sixth with a four-run surge. Nerwilian Cedeño sparked the rally with an RBI double to left before Devin Ortiz and Brandon Valenzuela drove in runs on fielder’s choices to tie and take the lead. Romeo Sanabria capped the inning with an RBI single, giving San Antonio a 4-2 advantage they would not relinquish.
Despite Frisco threatening late with singles from Ian Moller, the Riders were held scoreless across the final three innings by a stingy Missions bullpen. Enmanuel Pinales (3-3) earned the win for San Antonio, tossing two innings of two-run ball, while Ben Anderson (3-4) was tagged with the loss after surrendering all four runs in his five-inning outing—despite retiring 14 of the first 15 batters he faced.
📝 Riders Rundown:
- Magic Number Watch: Thanks to Midland’s 6-0 loss to Tulsa, Frisco’s magic number to clinch a first-half playoff berth remains at four, even with San Antonio closing the gap to 0.5 games.
- Walcott’s Tear: The 20-year-old shortstop has now hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games, showing poise and plate discipline with six walks and just one strikeout over that stretch.
- Zavala Milestone: Aaron Zavala tallied his 14th multi-walk game of the season and became just the second player in franchise history to reach 200 career walks, joining Guilder Rodriguez (2009–15). Zavala now needs just seven more to break the all-time RoughRiders record.
