U.S. Olympic sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson was arrested earlier this week after an alleged altercation with her boyfriend at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, authorities confirmed.
The Port of Seattle Police Department stated that officers responded to a disturbance involving a verbal dispute between Richardson and her partner. After an initial investigation, officers determined there was probable cause to arrest Richardson for misdemeanor domestic violence. She was taken into custody and later released.
A spokesperson for the Port of Seattle emphasized that no physical injuries were reported during the incident. Richardson has not publicly commented on the matter.
Known for her standout performance at the 2021 U.S. Olympic trials and her dynamic presence on and off the track, Richardson has often made headlines both for her athletic prowess and personal challenges. She was suspended ahead of the Tokyo Olympics after testing positive for marijuana, drawing national attention and sparking broader conversations around athlete conduct and mental health.
Legal proceedings related to the arrest are expected to follow in accordance with Washington state law.
