Saints Name Spencer Rattler as Starting Quarterback for 2025 Season

The New Orleans Saints have officially handed the keys to their offense to rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler, announcing him as the team’s starter heading into the 2025 NFL season.

Rattler, who was selected by the Saints in the 2025 NFL Draft, impressed coaches and teammates throughout training camp and preseason with his poise, arm strength, and ability to lead the huddle. Despite entering a quarterback room with experienced veterans, Rattler separated himself early with consistent play and a growing command of the offense.

Head coach Dennis Allen said the decision wasn’t made lightly, but Rattler’s growth over the summer and his leadership made it clear he was ready to take on the role.
“We’ve seen Spencer mature quickly in this system,” Allen said. “He’s earned the respect of the locker room and shown he gives us the best chance to win right now. We’re excited about his future and confident in his ability to handle this responsibility.”

Rattler, known for his strong arm and playmaking ability from his college career at South Carolina, acknowledged the weight of being named a starter as a rookie but welcomed the challenge.
“It’s a blessing and an honor to be named the starting quarterback for this franchise,” Rattler said. “I’ve worked hard to prepare, and I’m going to continue to learn and grow with this team. My goal is to lead us the right way and do whatever it takes to win games.”

The Saints are banking on Rattler’s potential to energize an offense that has struggled to find long-term consistency under center since the retirement of Drew Brees. His mobility, confidence in tight windows, and ability to extend plays bring a new dimension that the team hopes will spark a turnaround.

Veteran leaders in the locker room have already rallied around the rookie. Wide receiver Chris Olave praised Rattler’s progress and said the offense is buying in. “He’s got that fire,” Olave said. “You can see it in the way he prepares and the way he carries himself. We’re ready to roll with him.”

With the announcement, all eyes will be on Rattler when the Saints kick off their season. Expectations are high in New Orleans, and the rookie quarterback now has the chance to prove he can be the future of the franchise.
