Shot-Stopper Secured: FC Dallas Bring in Brooks Thompson Ahead of 2026 Season

FRISCO, Texas (Feb. 16, 2026)FC Dallas continued to reinforce its roster ahead of the 2026 MLS season, acquiring goalkeeper Brooks Thompson on loan from Lexington SC through June 2026, with a club option to make the move permanent.

The addition of Thompson provides FC Dallas with experienced depth at the goalkeeping position as the club prepares for a demanding stretch of league and cup competitions. At just 23 years old, Thompson arrives with an impressive résumé across multiple levels of the U.S. soccer pyramid, combining postseason experience with a track record of consistency between the posts.

Thompson spent the 2025 season with Lexington SC in the USL Championship, where he made 19 appearances across all competitions and recorded nine shutouts. His ability to command the penalty area and organize the back line played a significant role in Lexington’s defensive stability, and his performances quickly positioned him as one of the league’s more reliable young goalkeepers.

Prior to his time in Lexington, Thompson gained extensive experience on loan in USL League One, making a combined 35 appearances with Spokane Velocity and North Carolina FC. During that stretch, he advanced to back-to-back USL League One finals and captured the 2023 league championship with North Carolina FC. Those postseason runs exposed Thompson to high-pressure environments early in his professional career, an experience FC Dallas values as it builds depth capable of stepping into meaningful minutes when needed.

Thompson’s developmental path reflects a steady progression through elite environments. He began his soccer journey at IMG Academy before joining the Sporting Kansas City Academy in 2018. In 2019, while still an academy player, Thompson made his professional debut with Sporting Kansas City II in the USL Championship, a significant milestone that underscored his rapid development.

His growth continued when he signed his first professional contract with Sporting Kansas City in 2021. Although opportunities at the MLS level were limited, the subsequent loan spells proved instrumental in refining his game, particularly his shot-stopping, distribution, and decision-making in transition.

Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 185 pounds, Thompson brings a commanding physical presence to the position. His size allows him to cover ground efficiently, while his experience in possession-oriented systems has sharpened his ability to play out of the back—an increasingly important trait in modern MLS goalkeeping. FC Dallas’ interest in Thompson aligns with the club’s broader emphasis on players who can adapt tactically while maintaining defensive reliability.

From a roster management standpoint, the loan structure offers flexibility for both sides. FC Dallas gains immediate reinforcement and the opportunity to evaluate Thompson within its system, while the club option provides a pathway for a longer-term investment should he meet expectations. For Thompson, the move represents a chance to compete for minutes at the MLS level and continue his upward trajectory.

The acquisition also reflects FC Dallas’ ongoing strategy of blending established contributors with emerging talent. As the club prepares to open the 2026 MLS campaign, depth across all positions remains a priority, particularly in goal, where injuries and fixture congestion can quickly test a squad’s resilience.

Thompson, a native of Jefferson, Indiana, now enters a new chapter in Frisco with an opportunity to translate his USL success to the top flight. With professional experience spanning multiple leagues, championship pedigree, and room for continued growth, he arrives as a goalkeeper poised to push for opportunities and contribute to FC Dallas’ competitive ambitions.
