South Carolina Tabs Kevin Schnall as Next Head Baseball Coach
South Carolina has found its next leader for the baseball program, hiring Kevin Schnall away from Coastal Carolina to become the Gamecocks’ head coach.
Schnall arrives in Columbia after helping build one of the nation’s most consistent programs at Coastal Carolina. A former Chanticleer player and longtime assistant under legendary coach Gary Gilmore, Schnall took over as head coach in 2025 and quickly continued the program’s success.
During his tenure, Coastal Carolina remained a national contender, building on the foundation that produced a national championship in 2016 and multiple College World Series appearances. Schnall developed a reputation for strong player development, recruiting, and maintaining a winning culture.
The move comes as South Carolina looks to return to the top tier of the SEC and national college baseball. The Gamecocks are one of the sport’s most tradition-rich programs, with two national championships and a passionate fan base expecting a return to Omaha.
For Coastal Carolina, the departure marks the end of another chapter in one of the Sun Belt’s premier baseball programs. The Chanticleers have become a national brand over the past decade and will now begin the search for Schnall’s replacement.
South Carolina hopes Schnall can bring the same consistency and championship mindset that helped make Coastal Carolina one of the nation’s most respected programs.
