SWAC Champions vs. MEAC Royalty: Prairie View and SC State Clash for HBCU Supremacy

STWF Sports | ATLANTA, Ga. | Dec. 13, 2025  — A season defined by milestones, momentum, and long-awaited breakthroughs reaches its pinnacle on Saturday, Dec. 13, when Prairie View A&M steps onto the national stage for its first-ever Cricket Celebration Bowl appearance. Inside the sparkling confines of Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the SWAC champion Panthers will meet MEAC title-holder South Carolina State in a showdown that will crown the 2025 Black College National Champion.

For Prairie View A&M, this isn’t just another postseason game. It’s a moment 62 years in the making.

A HISTORIC SEASON FOR PRAIRIE VIEW

The Panthers enter Atlanta riding one of the greatest seasons in program history — a 10-win campaign matching their storied 1963 team for the most victories in school history. Behind disciplined coaching, a physical identity on both sides of the ball, and a roster loaded with explosive playmakers, Prairie View has reasserted itself as one of the premier powers in HBCU football.

The Panthers’ rise wasn’t an overnight success. It was built week-by-week, possession-by-possession, through grit, consistency, and a belief that this program could again compete on the biggest stage. Prairie View Nation has felt it all season long — the shift, the energy, the momentum — and now, the country will see it firsthand.

SWAC CHAMPIONS, AT LAST

Prairie View punched its ticket to Atlanta with a commanding performance in the 2025 SWAC Championship Game, a long-awaited breakthrough sealed by a complete team effort.

The defense — long one of the program’s anchors — put on a clinic. From relentless pressure on Jackson State’s backfield to key third-down stops, the unit dictated the flow of the game from the opening whistle to the final possession.

Offensively, Prairie View balanced explosiveness with control. The Panthers opened the game with tempo and rhythm, mixing big-play capability with sustained drives that chewed clock and kept Jackson State’s offense off the field. It was the blueprint head coach Tremaine Jackson envisioned — and his players delivered it flawlessly.

The 2025 SWAC title marked a signature achievement for the program and earned PVAMU a long-awaited first trip to the Celebration Bowl.

A FIRST-EVER MEETING WITH A POSTSEASON POWER

Surprisingly, despite each program’s rich history, Prairie View A&M and South Carolina State have never faced each other on the football field. That streak ends today.

South Carolina State arrives in Atlanta as the battle-tested champions of the MEAC — a program built on toughness, discipline, and decades of postseason pedigree. The Bulldogs have long been one of Black college football’s most consistent winners, and their physical brand of play has carried them through yet another championship run.

Prairie View counters with balance, tempo, and a defense that thrives in high-pressure moments. The Panthers have found their best football late in the season — and that’s often the formula for Celebration Bowl success.

A NEW ERA WITH A LEGACY ON THE LINE

Saturday is more than a game for Prairie View — it’s a statement.

Under Tremaine Jackson, the Panthers have risen from hopeful contenders to legitimate championship threats. The 10-win season, the dominant SWAC title run, and now the Celebration Bowl stage signal a new era of expectation for PVAMU football. This program no longer celebrates progress; it chases championships.

The opportunity is massive. A win today would not only deliver Prairie View A&M its first Celebration Bowl trophy, but also cement the 2025 team as one of the greatest squads in school history.

A moment decades in the making now comes down to 60 minutes under the bright lights of Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

A season built on belief now prepares for its biggest test.

And Prairie View A&M stands one win away from becoming Black College National Champions.
