STWF Sports| FORT WORTH, Texas| September 12, 2026 — Grambling State will take its unbeaten record on the road for the first time this season Saturday night when the Tigers face TCU at Amon G. Carter Stadium in a highly anticipated nonconference matchup.
Grambling State’s Road Challenge Against TCU
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT, with the game streaming on ESPN+. It will mark only the second meeting between the programs. TCU won the previous matchup 56-0 in 2012.
Grambling State enters the contest 2-0 after opening the 2026 season with victories over Clark Atlanta and Central State. The Tigers have scored 97 points through two games while allowing 33, establishing themselves as one of the more explosive offensive teams in the early portion of the season.
The Tigers have been especially productive on offense, averaging nearly 49 points and more than 560 yards per game. Grambling has shown balance through both the rushing and passing attacks, with 14 offensive touchdowns through two contests.
That balance was on full display in last week’s 48-26 win over Central State.
Grambling State piled up 644 yards of total offense, including 361 rushing yards. The Tigers averaged 9.0 yards per carry and scored six rushing touchdowns while converting 9 of 12 third-down opportunities.
The rushing attack has emerged as one of Grambling’s biggest strengths.
Tony Phillips Jr., Jamarion Parker and Byron Eaton Jr. have all provided explosive plays out of the backfield. Phillips broke loose for a 75-yard touchdown against Central State, while Parker scored on a 40-yard run and Eaton added a 58-yard touchdown burst.
Quarterback Reginald R.J. Johnson has also helped keep the Tigers balanced. Johnson completed 18 of 23 passes for 258 yards against Central State and spread the football to eight different receivers. Tyson George led the receiving corps with five catches for 93 yards, while Jordan Bride added 70 yards on three receptions.
Saturday’s challenge will be significantly different.
TCU enters the matchup 0-1 after falling 15-10 to North Carolina in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic in Dublin. The Horned Frogs led 10-3 early but were held scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Quarterback Jaden Craig completed 20 of 32 passes for 175 yards in his TCU debut, while running back Jeremy Payne rushed for 142 yards on 25 carries. Payne represents one of the biggest challenges for Grambling’s front seven after opening the season with a strong performance.
Defensively, the Tigers have already shown an ability to create disruptive plays. Against Central State, Grambling State recorded two sacks, six tackles for loss and two interceptions while also blocking a field goal.
That defensive activity will be critical against an FBS opponent with size and depth across the roster.
Saturday also carries historical significance. Grambling State is 8-26 all-time against current FBS programs, with its most recent victory over an FBS opponent coming in 1985 against Oregon State.
For the Tigers, this game represents an early-season measuring stick.
Grambling has dominated its first two opponents with speed, depth and offensive balance. Now the Tigers will have an opportunity to test that formula against a Big 12 opponent on the road.
A strong performance in Fort Worth would not only validate Grambling State’s hot start but also provide a meaningful benchmark as the Tigers continue building toward SWAC play.
