STWF Sports| GRAMBLING, La.| October 10, 2026 — Grambling State returns to Eddie G. Robinson Memorial Stadium on Saturday for a major Southwestern Athletic Conference matchup against No. 22 Jackson State, with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m. on SWAC TV.
The meeting will be the 74th all-time matchup between the two programs, with Grambling State holding a 49-23-1 series advantage. The G-Men have won the last two meetings, including a 26-24 victory in Las Vegas in 2025 and a 41-20 home win in 2024.
This year’s matchup carries plenty of weight.
Grambling enters at 3-2 overall and 1-1 in SWAC play after a dramatic 63-59 Homecoming win over Alcorn State. Jackson State arrives at 5-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play, making the Tigers the only remaining undefeated HBCU FCS team in the country.
Two Explosive Offenses Collide
Saturday’s game features two of the most productive offenses in the SWAC.
Jackson State is averaging 39.8 points and 471.6 yards per game, while Grambling State is producing 36.2 points and 441.0 yards per contest.
Grambling is coming off its highest-scoring performance in years. The Tigers rallied from a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit against Alcorn State and scored 21 unanswered points to complete the comeback.
Ashton Frye helped lead the rally, finishing with 203 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, 61 rushing yards and two more scores. Jacobe Robinson added 167 passing yards and two touchdowns as Grambling’s quarterbacks combined for 370 yards and four scores through the air.
Tyson George delivered one of the biggest performances of the season, catching six passes for 96 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winner with 19 seconds remaining.
Grambling finished with 599 total yards against Alcorn State, averaging 8.7 yards per play.
Grambling’s Playmakers Continue to Emerge
Through five games, Jordan Bride leads the G-Men with 23 receptions for 352 yards. George also has 23 catches, totaling 319 yards with a team-high five receiving touchdowns.
On the ground, Jamarion Parker leads Grambling with 187 rushing yards, while D’Shaun Ford has scored four rushing touchdowns.
The Tigers have also been efficient on third down, converting 47.6 percent of their opportunities.
Defensively, Grambling will need one of its strongest performances of the season against a Jackson State offense that has consistently created explosive plays.
Marcellius Johnson leads GSU with 29 tackles and two forced fumbles, while Lonell Cunningham has 28 tackles. Jon Horton has emerged as the Tigers’ most disruptive defender with 7.5 tackles for loss and four sacks.
Jackson State Presents Major Challenge
Jackson State has built its unbeaten start behind strong play on both sides of the ball.
Quarterback Jared Lockhart has thrown for 1,320 yards and 13 touchdowns without an interception, completing 62.6 percent of his passes.
The Jackson State defense has been equally impressive, leading the SWAC in total defense at 291.6 yards allowed per game and rushing defense at 86.2 yards per contest.
That balance will test a Grambling offense that has shown it can score quickly but will need to stay efficient against one of the conference’s toughest defensive units.
Home Field Could Matter
Saturday will mark Grambling State’s fourth home game of the season.
The Tigers own an impressive 113-40-1 all-time record at Eddie G. Robinson Memorial Stadium since the venue opened in 1983.
Grambling has also found offensive momentum at the right time. Its 36.2 points per game are the program’s highest average since 2016, and last week’s 63-point performance marked the first time the Tigers reached 60 points in a game since 2018.
Now, the challenge gets tougher.
With Jackson State unbeaten, nationally ranked and rolling through conference play, Grambling has an opportunity to make a statement in front of its home crowd.
