SWAC Preview: Prairie View A&M Set for Historic First Meeting Against Baylor in Waco

STWF Sports| PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas| September 12, 2026  — Prairie View A&M will step onto a new stage Saturday night when the Panthers travel to Waco for the first meeting in program history against Baylor.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT at McLane Stadium, where Prairie View A&M will look to build on the momentum of a dominant Labor Day Classic victory and test itself against another in-state opponent.

The Panthers enter the matchup at 1-1 after defeating Texas Southern 52-14 last Sunday. That performance gave Prairie View A&M its first win of the season and provided a much-needed boost heading into one of the more notable nonconference games on its 2026 schedule.

Saturday’s contest carries added significance because the two Texas programs have never met before.

For Prairie View A&M, the matchup offers another opportunity to represent the SWAC on the road while competing in a difficult environment against a Baylor team playing at home. The Panthers will need the same energy, discipline and execution they displayed against Texas Southern if they hope to remain competitive deep into the game.

Panthers Enter With Confidence

Prairie View A&M’s Labor Day Classic victory featured contributions from offense, defense and special teams.

One of the biggest plays came from Jahbari Kuykendall, who delivered a major spark in the return game. Kuykendall finished with 110 yards on two kickoff returns, highlighted by a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

His performance earned him SWAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors and gave the Panthers another weapon to lean on entering Saturday’s matchup.

Special teams could be especially important against Baylor. Field position can become critical in road games, and a big return or hidden-yardage advantage could help Prairie View A&M shorten the field and create scoring opportunities.

The Panthers also received a standout defensive performance from Malachi Williams, who was named SWAC Defensive Player of the Week after recording six tackles, three tackles for loss and three sacks against Texas Southern.

Williams was a major part of a Prairie View A&M defense that consistently disrupted the Tigers and controlled the line of scrimmage.

Against Baylor, that same pressure will be important.

Prairie View A&M cannot afford to allow the Bears to operate comfortably on offense. The Panthers will need to win early downs, limit explosive plays and create situations where the defensive front can attack obvious passing situations.

Opportunity to Measure Progress

Saturday’s matchup will also serve as an early measuring stick for Prairie View A&M.

The Panthers have already experienced both sides of the scoreboard through two games, and the Baylor matchup provides another chance to evaluate how well the team can carry its recent success into a different environment.

Prairie View A&M showed against Texas Southern that it is capable of creating momentum in a hurry. The challenge now will be maintaining composure in a road setting and avoiding mistakes that can quickly turn into points for the home team.

Ball security, tackling and field position will all matter.

If Prairie View A&M can protect the football, generate pressure defensively and create a few explosive plays, the Panthers can give themselves opportunities to remain within striking distance.

The Labor Day Classic win showed what the Panthers can look like when all three phases are working together. Saturday night will require an even sharper performance.

For Prairie View A&M, the first-ever meeting with Baylor is more than a historical footnote. It is another opportunity to build confidence, test the roster and continue developing momentum early in the 2026 season.
