STWF Sports| FORT WORTH, Texas| September 12, 2026 — Grambling State entered Saturday night looking to carry an unbeaten start into one of its toughest nonconference tests of the season. The Tigers showed flashes offensively, but TCU’s explosive attack and overwhelming depth proved too much in a 63-7 loss at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
The defeat dropped Grambling State to 2-1, while TCU improved to 1-1 in front of an announced crowd of 37,600.
Grambling State produced 210 total yards, but TCU controlled the game with 676 yards of offense and scored on eight of its nine offensive possessions. The Horned Frogs consistently created big plays through the air and on the ground, turning an early competitive stretch into a one-sided finish.
Grambling State’s Passing Game Shows Promise
Despite the final score, quarterback Reginald Johnson delivered one of the brighter performances for Grambling State. Making his second start of the season, Johnson completed 14 of 20 passes for 190 yards and one touchdown.
His best stretch came late in the second quarter, when Grambling State put together an eight-play, 91-yard touchdown drive.
Wide receiver Jordan Bride provided the biggest play of the possession with a 62-yard reception that moved the Tigers deep into TCU territory. Johnson finished the drive by finding Byron Eaton Jr. for a 7-yard touchdown with 4:25 remaining before halftime.
The score cut TCU’s advantage to 21-7 and briefly gave the Tigers momentum.
TCU responded before the break.
Joe Pitchford scored on a 1-yard run to extend the Horned Frogs’ lead, and TCU continued to pull away in the second half.
Quarterback Jaden Craig powered the Horned Frogs’ passing attack, finishing with 391 yards and four touchdowns. Craig connected twice with Kari Ashley for touchdowns while also throwing scoring passes to Ka’Morreun Pimpton and Jeremy Scott.
TCU’s rushing attack added another dimension. Major Everhart, Jon Denman and Amante Martin each reached the end zone as the Horned Frogs steadily widened the margin.
The Tigers’ offense had difficulty creating the same balance.
Grambling State managed only 20 net rushing yards on 28 attempts, forcing the offense to rely heavily on Johnson’s arm. The Tigers also struggled to sustain drives, converting just one of 14 third-down opportunities.
GSU had an opportunity to put points on the board in the opening quarter, but Diego Alfaro’s 20-yard field-goal attempt was blocked.
Special teams issues surfaced again later when TCU blocked a Grambling State punt in the fourth quarter.
The Horned Frogs added a defensive touchdown in the final period when cornerback Teon Parks returned an interception 67 yards for a score. Grambling State also lost a fumble, adding to a difficult night protecting possessions against an aggressive TCU defense.
Defensively, Louis Foster led the Tigers with seven tackles. Jaydon Scott recorded Grambling State’s lone sack.
While the result was lopsided, Grambling State did show some positives in the passing game. Bride finished with four receptions for 79 yards, while Johnson remained efficient under pressure and completed 70 percent of his attempts.
For the Tigers, the challenge now becomes quickly turning the page.
After opening the season with back-to-back victories, Grambling State received a significant test against a Big 12 opponent with superior size, speed and depth. The experience should give the Tigers valuable film as they prepare for the next phase of the schedule and the start of more meaningful conference competition.
At 2-1, Grambling State still leaves Fort Worth with a winning record and an opportunity to use Saturday’s setback as a learning experience moving forward.
