STWF Sports| WACO, Texas| September 12, 2026 — Prairie View A&M showed early resilience and created several defensive opportunities Saturday night, but Baylor’s offensive depth eventually proved too much as the Panthers fell 44-3 at McLane Stadium.
Prairie View A&M struck first, taking a 3-0 lead on its opening possession and briefly quieting the home crowd. The Panthers’ defense then gave the team repeated chances to stay competitive by forcing three interceptions and winning the turnover battle.
Despite those impact plays, Baylor steadily took control and finished with a 552-110 advantage in total offense, creating separation as the game progressed.
The Panthers’ defense provided some of the brightest moments of the night.
Defensive Highlights of Prairie View A&M’s Game
Malachi Williams recorded an interception while adding three tackles, continuing to make plays for a unit that has shown the ability to create pressure and turnovers early in the season. Harrison McKinley also came away with an interception, while Jj Davis contributed four tackles, one tackle for loss and another interception.
Prairie View A&M finished with three interceptions and two pass breakups, giving the Panthers several momentum-changing plays even as Baylor continued to move the football.
Nahamani Harris led Prairie View A&M with 10 tackles, anchoring a defense that spent a significant amount of time on the field.
The Panthers ultimately won the turnover battle 3-1, one of the clearest positives from the road matchup.
Offensively, however, Prairie View A&M struggled to establish consistent rhythm after its opening drive.
Zayvion Turner-Knox led the Panthers with 12 rushing yards, while quarterback Tevin Carter added nine yards on the ground. Through the air, Kyyon Harris provided the most productive receiving performance, catching three passes for 38 yards.
Prairie View A&M finished just 4-of-16 on third down, limiting its ability to sustain drives and keep the defense off the field. Baylor, by comparison, converted 8-of-14 third-down opportunities.
That difference became increasingly important as the night continued.
After Prairie View A&M’s opening field goal, Baylor responded and eventually built control of the game behind its ability to sustain possessions and generate explosive offense. The Bears’ 552 total yards allowed them to overcome the three interceptions and keep pressure on a Panthers defense that continued competing despite the growing margin.
The loss highlighted both the challenges and encouraging signs for Prairie View A&M.
The Panthers faced their first-ever meeting with Baylor on the road and were able to create three takeaways against a larger in-state opponent. At the same time, the offensive production was not enough to capitalize on those extra possessions.
Prairie View A&M will now turn its attention toward getting back on track at home.
The Panthers return to Panther Stadium next week to host Stephen F. Austin on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. The matchup gives Prairie View A&M an opportunity to regroup in familiar surroundings and address the offensive issues that limited its effectiveness in Waco.
For the Panthers, the defensive effort against Baylor provides something to build from. Creating three interceptions and winning the turnover margin are positive signs, but converting those opportunities into points will be critical moving forward.
Prairie View A&M leaves Waco with a difficult result, but also with evidence that its defense can create game-changing plays. The next step will be pairing that defensive production with a more consistent offensive performance when the Panthers return home.
