STWF Sports| PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas| September 5, 2026 — Prairie View A&M delivered a dominant all-around performance Sunday afternoon, overwhelming Texas Southern 52-14 in the 2026 Labor Day Classic at Panther Stadium at Blackshear Field.
The Impact of Prairie View A&M’s Performance
The Panthers improved to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, while Texas Southern dropped to 1-1 and 0-1 in the SWAC.
Prairie View A&M set the tone early and never gave the Tigers a chance to settle into the game. Five different players reached the end zone, led by Chase Bingmon, who scored twice and contributed as both a runner and receiver.
Quarterback Tevin Carter was sharp throughout the afternoon, completing 16 of 22 passes for 217 yards and four touchdowns without throwing an interception. Carter also added a rushing touchdown, giving the Panthers another dimension offensively and helping them finish with 398 total yards.
Bingmon paced the rushing attack with 60 yards on 10 carries, averaging 6.0 yards per attempt. He also caught passes for 59 yards and a touchdown, creating matchup problems for the Tigers throughout the contest.
Prairie View A&M jumped out quickly, building a 14-0 lead with 10:32 remaining in the first quarter before adding another score to make it 17-0. Texas Southern eventually responded, but the Panthers remained in control.
The game broke open in the third quarter.
Prairie View A&M scored 28 points in the period, turning a competitive game into a rout. The Panthers extended their advantage to 24-7, then 31-7, 38-7 and finally 45-7 during a decisive stretch in which the offense consistently capitalized on field position and execution.
The defense was just as disruptive.
Prairie View A&M recorded seven sacks and 11 tackles for loss, repeatedly collapsing the pocket and preventing Texas Southern from establishing offensive rhythm. Malachi Williams led that effort with six tackles, three tackles for loss and three sacks.
DeMarcus Wynn added three tackles, one tackle for loss, a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Tyler Morehead also recovered a fumble, helping Prairie View A&M win the turnover battle 2-0.
The Panthers did not commit a turnover.
That combination of ball security and defensive pressure gave Prairie View A&M control of the game from start to finish.
Texas Southern finished with 318 total yards, but much of that production came after the Panthers had already created significant separation on the scoreboard. Prairie View A&M held a 238-102 advantage in passing yards, a notable edge created by Carter’s efficiency and the Panthers’ ability to generate explosive plays through the air.
Rodny Ojo contributed three receptions for 68 yards, giving Carter another reliable option in the passing game. Jahbari Kuykendall added 37 rushing yards on just two carries, averaging 18.5 yards per attempt.
On defense, Kamrin Canterbury led Prairie View A&M with 11 tackles.
Texas Southern quarterback Cam’Ron McCoy completed 10 of 19 passes for 81 yards, while Athean Renfro led the Tigers on the ground with 85 rushing yards.
Prairie View A&M’s performance was highlighted by balance, pressure and discipline. The Panthers scored first, never trailed and consistently won the most important moments of the game.
For a team looking to establish early momentum in SWAC play, the Labor Day Classic provided exactly that.
The Panthers leave the rivalry matchup with a conference victory, an offense that showed explosiveness and a defense that proved capable of controlling the line of scrimmage.
