Tulane Adds Former BYU Quarterback Jake Retzlaff to Crowded QB Room

The Tulane quarterback room is getting more competitive. Former BYU quarterback Jake Retzlaff has committed to the Green Wave, becoming the fourth signal-caller on the roster.

Retzlaff enters as a graduate transfer with one year of eligibility remaining. He threw for 2,947 yards and 20 touchdowns during the 2024 season, and added 417 rushing yards and six scores on the ground.

His transfer comes after a tumultuous exit from BYU. Retzlaff was named in a civil lawsuit alleging rape—a claim he denied, stating in legal filings that the encounter was consensual. The case was ultimately dismissed following an agreement between both parties.

Multiple sources also indicated that Retzlaff was facing a potential seven-game suspension at BYU for violating the school’s honor code. However, Tulane’s Title IX office has cleared him to enroll and join the football program.

At Tulane, Retzlaff joins a crowded quarterback battle alongside Kadin Semonza, Donovan Leary, and Brendan Sullivan.

The Green Wave open their 2025 season at home in just 40 days, hosting Northwestern.
