Tulane University is set to promote Green Wave assistant coach Will Hall to its next head football coach.
Hall, currently serving as Tulane’s passing game coordinator, will step into the role following Jon Sumrall’s departure. Sumrall is leaving after the College Football Playoff to take over as the head coach at the University of Florida.
A familiar face within the program, Hall originally joined Tulane under former head coach Willie Fritz and returned to the staff after his stint at Southern Miss. Before his time in Hattiesburg, Hall built a strong coaching résumé at the Division II level, compiling an impressive 56–20 record as the head coach at West Alabama and West Georgia. However, his run at Southern Miss was less successful, where he finished 14–30.
Hall is highly regarded within the Tulane program, known for his leadership and respect among players and staff.
LSU defensive coordinator Blake Baker was previously considered the frontrunner for the position, but he ultimately chose to remain in Baton Rouge under new Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin.
Tulane will close out its season in the College Football Playoff against Ole Miss on Dec. 20.
