The yet-to-be-named team will become the league’s latest addition and is expected to play its home games at the MAPS 4 Multipurpose Stadium, a state-of-the-art venue currently under development in downtown Oklahoma City.

Strategic Expansion into Football Territory

The move reflects the league’s commitment to expanding into markets with strong football traditions, and few regions fit that description more than Oklahoma.

“Oklahoma lives and breathes football, so bringing the UFL to Oklahoma City was an easy decision,” said UFL co-owner Mike Repole. “This is a state that shows up, cares deeply and truly understands the game.”

From powerhouse college programs to a deeply rooted high school football culture, Oklahoma has long been viewed as fertile ground for professional football. The addition of a UFL franchise aims to tap into that existing passion while providing a new spring football option for fans across the state.

New Stadium Anchors Franchise Launch

Central to the expansion effort is the MAPS 4 Multipurpose Stadium, a modern venue designed to deliver a premium fan experience. The stadium is scheduled to open in early 2028 and will seat just over 10,000 spectators, with the ability to expand as demand grows.

Designed by globally recognized architecture firm Populous, the venue is expected to serve as a centerpiece of Oklahoma City’s evolving sports and entertainment district. Located near major attractions such as Scissortail Park and the Bricktown area, the stadium will be integrated into a larger multi-use development aimed at enhancing downtown connectivity.

In addition to football, the facility is expected to host a wide range of events, including soccer matches, concerts and other cultural gatherings, positioning it as a year-round destination.

League Leadership Emphasizes Growth Vision

UFL President and CEO Russ Brandon highlighted the strategic importance of the expansion, pointing to Oklahoma City’s readiness for professional sports and the league’s broader growth trajectory.

“The combination of a new stadium, deep-rooted football culture and a city that has proven its ability to support major league sports makes this an easy decision,” Brandon said. “We are thrilled to bring the UFL’s brand of high-octane spring football to Oklahoma City.”

Local leadership echoed that sentiment, with Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt emphasizing the significance of the announcement.

“We love sports and we love football, so we think this should be a great fit,” Holt said. “The MAPS 4 stadium opens up new opportunities for our city, and this is a perfect example.”

While the franchise’s name, colors and branding have yet to be revealed, the league confirmed that the Oklahoma City community will play a role in shaping the team’s identity.

Current Season Continues

The expansion news comes as the UFL is in the midst of its 2026 campaign, which kicked off March 27 with eight teams, including the Dallas Renegades, Birmingham Stallions and St. Louis Battlehawks.

The league’s 10-week regular season will culminate in the UFL Championship Game on June 13, as the top four teams compete for the title.
