Clark Lea has agreed to a new six-year contract extension to remain head coach of Vanderbilt Commodores football. The extension comes amid rising interest from other major programs but Vanderbilt decided to lock in Lea’s leadership for the foreseeable future. The deal reportedly includes a significant raise for Lea along with enhanced support for his coaching staff and improved facilities — part of the school’s broader commitment to elevating its football program.
Under Lea’s guidance, Vanderbilt has risen to a 9–2 record this season, with a 5–2 mark in conference play and national rankings that put the Commodores in the mix for a College Football Playoff berth. Over the past two seasons, Vanderbilt has racked up 16 wins — the best two-year stretch for the program in nearly a century. The 2024 campaign included historic milestones, such as Vanderbilt’s first victory over a No. 1–ranked opponent in program history.
