Week 4 Recap

RV/RV Stephen F. Austin 35, Cal Poly 17
A 21-point third quarter powered Stephen F. Austin past Cal Poly, 35-17, Saturday night at Homer Bryce Stadium. Junior linebacker Malachi Williams sparked the surge with a 36-yard pick-six just 53 seconds into the half, marking SFA’s third defensive touchdown in two weeks. Earlier, Kylon Harris flipped the momentum with a 65-yard punt return score—his second of the season—giving the ’Jacks a lead they never lost. All three phases contributed as SFA closed non-conference play at .500.

UTRGV 61, Texas Wesleyan 13
UTRGV capped its inaugural non-conference slate unbeaten, moving to 4-0 with a 61-13 rout of Texas Wesleyan before a sellout crowd of 12,447 at Vackar Stadium. The Vaqueros join South Alabama (2009) as just the second brand-new FCS program since 2008 to open 4-0. They’re also one of 15 remaining undefeated FCS teams, and one of six with at least four wins. Five different running backs scored, led by junior Djouvensky Schlenbaker and four freshmen: TJ Dement, Brennan Carroll, Fabian Garcia (San Benito), and Broderick Taylor.

No. 17/19 Northern Arizona 31, No. 19/14 UIW 23
UIW dropped a ranked showdown at Northern Arizona, 31-23. EJ Colson threw for 292 yards and two touchdowns to Jameson Garcia, who posted 162 receiving yards. NAU stretched the lead with a 50-yard field goal late in the fourth. UIW drove into the red zone down eight but couldn’t convert in the final minutes.

Northern Colorado 26, HCU 23 (OT)
Houston Christian rallied from 10 down and forced overtime, but Northern Colorado prevailed 26-23 on a Hank Gibbs 1-yard keeper. The Huskies forced a late turnover to tie it, then blocked a field goal to push the game to OT. Conner Weinrich drilled a 37-yard field goal on HCU’s possession before UNC sealed it. Rodney Dansby stuffed the stat sheet with 18 tackles, two for loss, a forced fumble, and a pick-six.

Grambling 31, East Texas A&M 28
East Texas A&M led most of the way, but Grambling strung together a 12-play, 77-yard drive capped by a 1-yard TD run with under two minutes left for a 31-28 win. ETAMU’s last chance ended with a missed 52-yard field goal. QB Eric Rodriguez finished 23-for-33 for 229 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.

Prairie View 27, Northwestern State 24
Northwestern State nearly broke through for its first road win but fell 27-24 at Prairie View. Abram Johnston threw for 156 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for a team-high 71 yards and another score, becoming the first NSU player since 2022 to account for three TDs in a game.

Texas State 35, RV/RV Nicholls 3
Texas State overpowered Nicholls, 35-3, behind four first-half rushing touchdowns. The Colonels managed just 224 yards of offense. QB Deuce Hogan threw for 97 yards but was picked in the red zone. Miequle Brock Jr. paced Nicholls with 59 rushing yards and 36 receiving yards.

Utah State 48, McNeese 7
McNeese had no answers for Utah State’s explosive offense in a 48-7 defeat. The Aggies piled up 627 yards, leading 34-7 at halftime. Tre’Vonte Citizen rushed for 71 yards, including a 51-yard burst that set up the Cowboys’ lone TD, a 20-yard grab by Jonathan Harris.

#3/4 LSU 56, Southeastern 10
Southeastern Louisiana fell 56-10 at LSU, totaling 204 yards. Carson Camp and Kyle Lowe split snaps at QB, with Camp tossing an 11-yard touchdown to Deantre Jackson. Defensively, KK Reno recorded 14 tackles, his fourth straight game leading the Lions, while Kaleb Proctor notched two sacks.
