The Dallas Wings (2-11) return to the road this weekend looking to build momentum and complete a season sweep against the struggling Connecticut Sun (2-10). Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT Friday from Mohegan Sun Arena, with national broadcast coverage on ION. Brendan Glasheen and Ashley Battle will be on the call, with Terrika Foster-Brasby reporting from the sidelines.
This marks the second meeting of the season between the two teams, with the Wings routing the Sun 109-87 back on May 25 in Connecticut. That game featured a breakout performance from rookie guard Paige Bueckers, who scored a then-career-high 21 points in her return to the state where she became a college basketball icon at UConn.
Wings Riding High After Win Over Valkyries
Dallas is coming off a much-needed home win, snapping a five-game skid with an 80-71 victory over the Golden State Valkyries on Tuesday night. Bueckers led all scorers with 20 points, continuing to show poise and polish well beyond her rookie status. Forward NaLyssa Smith also played a key role, pulling down 10 rebounds to anchor a strong interior effort.
While the Wings still sit near the bottom of the Western Conference standings, Tuesday’s win — their first since May 30 — offered a glimpse of what this young roster is capable of when clicking on both ends.
Sun Searching for Answers
Connecticut enters Friday’s game on a four-game losing streak, most recently falling 83-75 to the Phoenix Mercury. Despite 16 points from standout rookie Aneesah Morrow, the Sun have struggled to find consistent offensive rhythm and sit just one game ahead of Dallas in the overall league standings.
The Sun will no doubt be looking to avenge their earlier loss to Dallas, but they’ll need to slow down a Wings offense that dropped a season-high 109 points on them in the first matchup.
What’s Next
After facing Connecticut, the Wings will head to the nation’s capital for a Sunday matinee showdown with the Washington Mystics. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m. CT, with local coverage available on KFAA29 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
With a chance to string together back-to-back wins for the first time this season, the Wings’ weekend road swing could serve as a turning point — or at the very least, a spark — for a team still searching for its identity under first-year head coach Chris Koclanes.
By the Numbers:
- Paige Bueckers: 20+ points in 3 of her last 5 games
- NaLyssa Smith: 10 rebounds vs. Golden State, 4th double-digit board game of season
- Aneesah Morrow (CT): Leads Sun in scoring (15.2 PPG) during current losing streak
Stay tuned to ION and local coverage as the Wings continue their East Coast swing with hopes of climbing the WNBA standings.
