WNBA Game Preview: Dallas Wings vs. Las Vegas Aces – July 16, 2025

Arlington, TX — July 16, 2025 — The Dallas Wings return to College Park Center on Wednesday night looking to regain momentum as they take on the defending champion Las Vegas Aces. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. CT, with local coverage on KFAA29 and national streaming available via WNBA League Pass. Calling the action will be veteran play-by-play voice Ron Thulin, Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman, and former Wings standout Tiffany Bias-Patmon reporting from the sideline.

The Wings (6-16) are coming off a tough three-game road trip, capped by a 102-83 loss to the Indiana Fever on Sunday. Despite the defeat, rookie sensation Paige Bueckers continued her impressive campaign, posting 21 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals — her eighth 20-point outing of the season. However, Dallas will be eager to get back on their home floor, where they’ve been far more effective.

Home Cooking

The Wings are riding a four-game home win streak, most recently downing the Phoenix Mercury 98-89 on July 3. At College Park Center, Dallas has found its rhythm on both ends of the court, buoyed by their depth, improved three-point shooting, and energetic fanbase. First-year head coach Chris Koclanes has leaned heavily on a young roster full of new faces, and it’s beginning to pay off.

JJ Quinerly, who’s started five straight games, continues to impress with her tenacity and scoring touch. Li Yueru has scored in double figures in back-to-back contests for the first time in her WNBA career, including a 16-point outing against Indiana. Fellow rookie Aziaha James has also carved out a role in the rotation, giving the Wings a spark off the bench with her quickness and defensive instincts.

The Last Time They Met

Dallas and Las Vegas last squared off on June 13 in a thriller at Michelob ULTRA Arena. The Wings led by as many as 11 in the fourth quarter, but the Aces rallied late to steal a 94-89 win behind clutch performances from their All-Star trio. The loss left a bitter taste for Dallas, who proved they could compete with the league’s elite but fell short in crunch time.

Aces Heating Up

Las Vegas (10-11) is coming off a nail-biting 104-102 win over the expansion Golden State Valkyries, thanks to a combined 65 points from A’ja Wilson, Kelsey Plum, and Jackie Young. After a rocky start to their title defense, the Aces have stabilized, going 5-5 over their last 10. Wilson remains the centerpiece of Becky Hammon’s attack, averaging over 20 points per game while dominating on the boards and anchoring the defense.

Although the Aces aren’t the same juggernaut that won back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023, they’re still loaded with firepower and experience. For Dallas to come out on top, slowing down Wilson and controlling the tempo will be key.

What to Watch For

  • Rebounding Battle: The Wings will need strong performances on the glass from Luisa Geiselsöder, Yueru, and Myisha Hines-Allen to counter Las Vegas’ physicality.

  • Bench Impact: Look for Aziaha James and Stephanie Mawuli to provide energy and scoring in the second unit. Dallas has been at its best when the bench contributes early.

  • Bueckers vs. Plum: The showdown between the rookie phenom and the veteran sharpshooter could set the tone for the night.

Bottom Line

Dallas has shown flashes of growth, especially at home, and a win over Las Vegas would not only be a statement victory but also provide a confidence boost heading into the All-Star break. For the Aces, it’s a chance to stay in the thick of the playoff race as they try to reclaim their championship form.

Expect a competitive, high-energy battle in Arlington — and a packed house ready to rally behind the rising Wings. The Fans are Ready to Protect Their House!
