WNBA Game Preview: Wings Look to Sweep Season Series vs. Valkyries on West Coast Swing

ARLINGTON, TX (July 25, 2025) — The Dallas Wings continue their West Coast road trip Friday night as they travel to San Francisco to take on the Golden State Valkyries at Chase Center. Tipoff is set for 9 p.m. CT with national coverage on ION, where broadcasters Kevin Danna and Morgan Ragan will be on the call.

Riding the momentum of a dominant 87-63 win over the Seattle Storm on Tuesday, the Wings (7-17) aim to keep the wheels turning against a Valkyries (10-12) team that has not played since before the All-Star break. Dallas snapped a three-game losing streak with the win in Seattle and looked sharp on both ends of the floor, particularly in the second half where they outscored the Storm 53-27.

Ogunbowale and Bueckers Powering the Surge

Star guard Arike Ogunbowale continued her stellar season by dropping 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting in Seattle. In the process, she passed Deanna Nolan to become the franchise’s all-time leader in made field goals (1,477). Ogunbowale leads Dallas in scoring and continues to be the engine of the Wings’ offense, providing leadership and clutch shot-making during key stretches.

Paired with rookie phenom Paige Bueckers, the Wings’ backcourt is gaining traction. Bueckers added 14 points and six assists against the Storm, and her milestone—becoming the fastest in WNBA history (tied with Caitlin Clark) to reach 300 points and 100 assists in just 19 games—is a testament to her high IQ and quick adaptation to the pro game.

The Opponent: Golden State Valkyries

The expansion Valkyries enter Friday’s matchup with a 10-12 record and some rust to shake off. They haven’t played since a 67-58 road loss to the Storm on July 16, in which they shot just 35% from the field and failed to reach 60 points for only the second time this season.

Golden State is led by Monique Billings, who paced the Valkyries with 18 points and eight rebounds in their previous meeting with Dallas on June 17. Billings provides interior toughness and transition scoring, while sharpshooters like Shatori Walker-Kimbrough and Rae Burrell give the Valkyries the ability to stretch the floor.

Round Two

This will be the second matchup between Dallas and Golden State in their four-game season series. The Wings took the first game 80-71 on June 17 in Arlington. In that contest, Ogunbowale (21 points) and Bueckers (18 points) combined for 39 points to power the Wings, while Dallas held Golden State to just 36% shooting from the field.

Friday’s game marks the first time Dallas will visit the Valkyries at Chase Center. The Wings will need to replicate the defensive effort that held Seattle to just 27 second-half points if they hope to remain unbeaten in the all-time series (currently 1-0).

Injury Report

Dallas continues to navigate several key injuries. Ty Harris (left knee), Myisha Hines-Allen (right lower leg), and Maddy Siegrist (right knee) are all ruled out for Friday’s game. Their absences have opened the door for deeper bench contributions, including recent strong performances from Haley Jones and Aziaha James.

What to Watch

  • Bench production: The Dallas bench outscored Seattle’s reserves 23-9 on Tuesday. If the Wings can maintain that depth advantage, they could control the pace on Friday.

  • Battle on the boards: Dallas matched a season-high 48 rebounds vs. Seattle and outrebounded the Storm by 14. Winning the rebounding battle will be key against a Valkyries squad that’s aggressive in the paint.

  • Tempo control: Both teams have young legs and like to push in transition. Expect the team that limits turnovers and controls tempo to come out on top.

Up Next

Following Friday’s contest, the Wings return home for a two-game homestand beginning with a showdown against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever on Thursday, August 1 at American Airlines Center.
