WNBA Game Preview: Wings Host Liberty in Pivotal Season Finale Matchup at College Park Center

Dallas Wings vs. New York Liberty
August 8, 2025 | Arlington, TX

The Dallas Wings and New York Liberty are set to conclude their three-game season series on Friday night in Arlington, capping off a high-intensity stretch that has seen the teams split their last two matchups. Tipoff is slated for 6:30 p.m. CT at College Park Center, with national television coverage on ION.

Both squads enter this third contest with something to prove. For Dallas (8-22), it’s an opportunity to secure a season series win over a WNBA championship contender and generate momentum as the calendar winds down. For New York (19-10), the game presents a chance to keep pace in the playoff race and reassert dominance after a rare stumble in their last trip to Texas.

A Tale of Two Games

The Wings stunned the Liberty on July 28 with a 92-82 victory, led by a dazzling performance from rookie standout Paige Bueckers, who posted 20 points and dished a career-high 14 assists. The win was one of the team’s most complete efforts of the season, and it showcased the offensive chemistry Dallas is capable of when clicking.

But just eight days later, the Liberty responded on their home floor with an 85-76 win, snapping a two-game skid and leveling the season series. Sabrina Ionescu poured in 36 points in that outing, while New York’s defensive adjustments helped hold Dallas to just 37.2% shooting.

Spotlight on Paige Bueckers

All eyes will be on Bueckers again Friday night—if she plays. The rookie guard is currently listed as questionable with back soreness, and her availability will be critical to Dallas’ chances. She’s averaged 20.5 points per game in the two previous contests against the Liberty and continues to climb the league’s all-time rookie leaderboards.

Bueckers is now second in franchise history for 20-point games by a rookie (13) and tied for 10th all-time in WNBA rookie history, joining elite company like Diana Taurasi and Elena Delle Donne. If she suits up, she could once again be the difference-maker against a Liberty squad that has shown vulnerability on the road.

Dallas Depth Developing

One of the most encouraging signs for head coach Chris Koclanes has been the increased bench production. Maddy Siegrist returned to the lineup Tuesday after nearly two months away due to a knee injury and immediately made an impact, scoring 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Her ability to stretch the floor and add versatility to the frontcourt gives Dallas a much-needed spark down the stretch.

Additionally, Luisa Geiselsöder continues to be a rebounding force, having posted 10 boards in the last matchup and helping to limit second-chance opportunities for the Liberty.

Liberty Eyeing Playoff Position

While the Wings look for growth and rhythm, the Liberty are in a much different spot. At 19-10, they’re battling for top-three seeding and home-court advantage in the postseason. Jonquel Jones and Natasha Cloud offer physicality and veteran experience, while Breanna Stewart and Ionescu anchor one of the league’s most explosive offenses.

New York is 6-4 in its last 10 games, but just 2-2 over the past four, indicating a team still ironing out late-season consistency.

Honoring Trailblazers

Friday also marks the beginning of the Wings’ Inspiring Women Weekend, presented by GEM (Girls Empowered by Mavericks). The team will recognize three impactful women during the game:

  • Jody Conradt, Hall of Fame coach – Trailblazer Woman of Inspiration Award

  • Jennifer Bartkowski, CEO of Girl Scouts of North Texas – Community Woman of Inspiration Award

  • Kimberly Bizor Tolbert, Dallas City Manager – Businesswoman of Inspiration Award

The event is part of the Wings’ broader effort to empower and celebrate women’s leadership in North Texas and beyond.

Series Tied, Pride on the Line

With the all-time series locked at 42-42, Friday’s clash carries historic weight. It’s not just a regular-season game — it’s a tiebreaker between two franchises that have traded blows across two decades of WNBA action.

Whether it’s the veterans of New York or the youth-fueled fire of Dallas, expect a high-stakes, high-energy showdown under the Friday night lights in Arlington.
