WNBA Game Preview: Wings Look to Sweep Season Series Against Sun

ARLINGTON, Texas (Aug. 26, 2025) — The Dallas Wings return to action on Wednesday night as they host the Connecticut Sun at College Park Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CT, with local coverage on KFAA29 and national streaming available on WNBA League Pass. Veteran broadcaster Ron Thulin and Naismith Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman will be on the call, with Tiffany Bias-Patmon providing sideline reports.

Both teams enter the matchup looking to halt late-season struggles and gain momentum. The Wings (9-29) are coming off a 90-81 defeat to the Golden State Valkyries on Sunday, while the Sun (9-28) dropped their most recent contest Monday night on the road against the New York Liberty, 88-74.

Wings Finding Bright Spots Amid Injuries

Despite their record, the Wings have discovered new contributors in recent weeks. Maddy Siegrist has emerged as the team’s most reliable scorer, leading Dallas in points for the fourth time in six games with 16 against Golden State. The second-year forward continues to shoulder a heavy workload, particularly with All-Star guard Arike Ogunbowale sidelined by a knee injury.

Another encouraging sign came from Amy Okonkwo, who impressed in just her second career WNBA appearance. Okonkwo posted 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting, while adding three rebounds and two assists. Her energy off the bench has given head coach Chris Koclanes a new option in the rotation as Dallas navigates a roster thinned by injuries.

Rookie guard Paige Bueckers saw her streak of 30 consecutive double-digit scoring games snapped on Sunday, finishing with nine points and nine assists. Still, her ability to create opportunities for teammates has kept the Wings’ offense competitive even in difficult stretches.

Connecticut’s Road Struggles

The Sun arrive in Arlington looking for answers after falling to New York on Monday. Aneesah Morrow was the bright spot, finishing with 18 points and 15 rebounds for her 11th double-double of the season. The rookie forward has been a force on the glass and continues to provide stability on both ends of the floor.

Connecticut’s challenge has been consistency away from home. At 9-28 overall, the Sun have struggled to string together wins, particularly in closing situations. Against Dallas, however, they will be motivated to avoid a season sweep after dropping both previous matchups in Uncasville.

Series History

Dallas has dominated the series thus far in 2025, winning both meetings at Mohegan Sun Arena. On May 27, the Wings erupted offensively in a 109-87 victory, their highest-scoring output of the season. Siegrist led a balanced attack that saw five players reach double figures.

The rematch on June 20 was a much tighter affair, with Dallas edging Connecticut 86-83. Ogunbowale scored 27 points that night, including clutch free throws in the final minute, to secure the Wings’ first-ever two-game win streak in the all-time series.

Overall, the Wings are looking for their first season sweep of the Sun in franchise history.

Keys to the Matchup

For Dallas, controlling the glass will be critical. With Morrow anchoring Connecticut’s frontcourt, the Wings will need strong rebounding efforts from Siegrist, Haley Jones, and Teaira McCowan to limit second-chance opportunities.

Offensively, Bueckers’ playmaking will again be the centerpiece. If Okonkwo can continue her efficient scoring and Siegrist maintains her hot hand, Dallas has the weapons to extend its dominance over the Sun.

Connecticut, meanwhile, will look to exploit Dallas’ defensive lapses on the perimeter. The Sun have the shooters to capitalize if the Wings’ rotations falter. Keeping turnovers low and maximizing trips to the free-throw line will be key if they hope to snap their skid.

What’s at Stake

While both clubs sit outside the playoff picture, Wednesday’s game carries significance for player development and team morale. Dallas has shown flashes of resilience, and a season sweep of Connecticut would represent a tangible step forward in an otherwise challenging campaign.

For the Sun, the matchup is an opportunity to snap a two-game losing streak and regain confidence heading into September.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT at College Park Center. With a season sweep on the line, expect a competitive contest as both Dallas and Connecticut look to finish the regular season with momentum.
