WNBA Game Recap: Wings Fall to Aces in Front of Sellout Crowd Despite McCowan’s Double-Double

Arlington, TX (July 27, 2025) – In front of a packed house at College Park Center, the Dallas Wings mounted early runs and showed flashes of promise but ultimately fell to the Las Vegas Aces, 106-80, on Sunday afternoon. The loss snapped Dallas’ recent home momentum and dropped the Wings to 7-19 on the season, while Las Vegas improved to 13-13. The contest marked Dallas’ sixth sellout of 2025 and fifth of the regular season, underscoring the team’s growing fan base even through a challenging year.

For the Wings, Teaira McCowan provided the afternoon’s brightest highlight, recording her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds in just 17 minutes. Haley Jones continued her hot stretch, posting a season-best 15 points, her fourth straight game in double figures. Arike Ogunbowale paced the offense with 18 points and added four assists, while rookie JJ Quinerly chipped in five assists to go along with eight points.

First Quarter: Punch and Counterpunch

Dallas unveiled a new starting five — JJ Quinerly, Ogunbowale, DiJonai Carrington, Luisa Geiselsöder, and Li Yueru — marking Carrington’s first start since mid-June. The Aces opened with a 12-4 run, fueled by A’ja Wilson’s inside presence, but Dallas responded quickly with a 9-0 run of its own to seize its first lead.

Ogunbowale set the tone with eight points and two assists in the quarter, while Jones sparked the Wings’ bench with seven points. Jackie Young carried Las Vegas early, draining four threes and scoring 14 of the Aces’ 27 points. By the end of the period, the game was tied 27-27, with Dallas holding a 16-8 advantage in paint scoring.

Second Quarter: Aces Create Separation

The Wings kept pace through the early minutes of the second before Jewell Loyd ignited a 22-9 Las Vegas surge with five straight points. NaLyssa Smith added a key putback that forced a Wings timeout as the deficit stretched to double digits.

Despite the push, Jones and Ogunbowale combined for 24 of Dallas’ 44 first-half points. Jones logged 12 points, three rebounds, and a block by the break, while Ogunbowale added 12 points with two assists. Young led all scorers with 14 at halftime, while Las Vegas outshot Dallas from long range and built a 56-44 lead heading into the locker room.

Third Quarter: McCowan Dominates the Glass

McCowan took over in the paint to open the second half, pulling down 10 rebounds and scoring six points in just six minutes. Her energy kept Dallas within striking distance despite the offense cooling off. The Wings shot only 22.2 percent in the third compared to Las Vegas’ 33.3 percent, combining for just 10 made field goals. By the end of the frame, the Aces maintained a 73-58 advantage.

Fourth Quarter: Aces Slam the Door

Las Vegas sealed the game with a dominant fourth quarter, outscoring Dallas 33-22. Young, Loyd, and Kierstan Bell combined for 24 points in the period, extending the lead to 16 early and never looking back. McCowan added six points and two more rebounds in the quarter, but the Wings had no answer for the Aces’ offensive depth.

The Aces shot 48.6 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from deep, compared to Dallas’ 38 percent and 21.1 percent. Las Vegas also capitalized on turnovers, turning 12 Dallas miscues into 26 points.

Final Numbers

Jackie Young led Las Vegas with 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting, while Wilson chipped in a double-double with 10 rebounds and 17 points. Loyd added 20 off the bench, giving the Aces five double-figure scorers.

For Dallas, Ogunbowale finished with 18 points and four assists, Jones tallied 15 points for a career-best streak of double-digit games, and McCowan’s double-double was her first of the year.
