STWF Sports| ARLINGTON, Texas| September 17, 2026 — The Dallas Wings have converted forward/guard Haley Jones from a Developmental Player agreement to a Standard Player Contract, the team announced Thursday.
The move gives Jones a more permanent place on the roster as Dallas continues navigating the final stretch of the 2026 WNBA regular season.
Haley Jones: A Rising Star in the WNBA
Jones originally signed a Developmental Player contract with the Wings on June 21 after being waived by the Portland Fire. Since joining Dallas this season, she has appeared in three games and averaged 1.3 points per contest while shooting 50 percent from the field.
Before returning to the Wings, Jones played in five games for Portland during the 2026 season, averaging 5.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.0 assists.
Her history with Dallas, however, goes back to the previous season.
Jones first joined the Wings in June 2025 on a hardship contract before signing a rest-of-season deal on July 9. She went on to appear in 24 games, including 16 starts, and produced the best statistical stretch of her WNBA career.
During that run, Jones averaged career highs of 8.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 0.8 steals per game, becoming a regular part of the Wings’ rotation.
Her versatility as a forward/guard and familiarity with Dallas’ system made her a known option when the Wings had an opportunity to bring her back this season.
Jones was selected by the Portland Fire in the league’s April Expansion Draft before eventually being waived and returning to Dallas.
The timing of the contract conversion comes one day after the Wings waived guard Sug Sutton, who sustained a season-ending injury to her right hand during practice earlier in the week.
Dallas announced that it will continue to oversee Sutton’s rehabilitation despite the roster move.
Sutton had appeared in 22 games for the Wings this season after signing with the organization in June, averaging 2.3 points and 1.5 assists while shooting 48.8 percent from the field.
Her injury created an open roster spot, giving Dallas the flexibility to convert Jones’ agreement to a standard deal.
For Jones, the move represents another opportunity to solidify her role with a franchise where she has already enjoyed the most productive stretch of her professional career.
While her playing time has been limited this season, she has remained an option off the bench and provides Dallas with positional flexibility and experience within the team’s system.
The Wings are in the middle of a critical late-season stretch and have already secured a playoff berth. With postseason positioning still in play, roster stability and dependable depth become increasingly important.
Jones’ familiarity with the organization could be valuable as Dallas manages rotations, injuries and matchups over the remaining regular-season games.
The contract conversion also gives the Wings additional continuity at a time when the team is balancing postseason preparation with roster adjustments.
Jones now moves forward under a standard contract as Dallas continues its push toward the playoffs, with an opportunity to once again expand her role and contribute during the most important portion of the season.
