STWF Sports | ARLINGTON, Texas | August 14, 2026 — The Dallas Wings bring back a familiar face to strengthen their backcourt, guard Christyn Williams was signed to a Developmental Player contract, the team announced Friday.
Williams is expected to join Dallas ahead of Monday’s road matchup against the Golden State Valkyries, giving the Wings another experienced guard option as the regular season enters its final stretch.
The move marks Williams’ second stint with Dallas after she appeared in four games for the Wings during the 2025 season on a hardship contract.
Christyn Williams: A Rising Star in the WNBA
This year, Williams has continued developing her game with the Greensboro Groove of the Upshot League. Across 14 games, she averaged 9.6 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists while shooting 41.1 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point range.
Before joining Greensboro, Williams played professionally overseas with Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion in Israel, where she produced 14.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game over 11 appearances.
Her return to Dallas also reunites her with several familiar faces from her collegiate career.
Williams spent four seasons at UConn, playing two seasons alongside current Wings guard Paige Bueckers and one season with Azzi Fudd.
During her time with the Huskies, Williams developed into one of the country’s top perimeter players. She earned the 2022 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, presented annually to the nation’s top shooting guard, and helped UConn reach three Final Fours.
Williams entered the professional ranks as the No. 14 overall selection by the Washington Mystics in the 2022 WNBA Draft, but her rookie season was derailed before it began when she suffered a season-ending injury.
She later spent time with the Phoenix Mercury during the 2023 season and signed a training camp contract with the Minnesota Lynx in February 2025 before eventually landing with Dallas later that summer.
In her brief four-game stint with the Wings last year, Williams averaged 4.3 points, 1.0 rebound and 0.8 assists.
Her latest opportunity comes through the WNBA’s new Developmental Player roster structure.
For the 2026 season, teams have two Developmental Player roster spots that exist outside the standard roster limit. The mechanism is designed to create additional opportunities for eligible early-career players and those who logged limited minutes during the previous season.
Each Developmental Player may be activated for up to 12 regular-season games, while teams are limited to 24 total developmental player activations during the season.
Players on Developmental contracts receive a weekly stipend while with the team, along with additional per-game compensation whenever they are activated.
For Dallas, the signing adds another versatile guard with prior familiarity in the organization and experience playing both domestically and internationally.
Williams brings size, athleticism and shooting ability to a Wings backcourt that already features several established scoring options. Her familiarity with Bueckers and Fudd could also help ease her transition back into the team’s system.
With Dallas preparing for another important road test Monday against Golden State, Williams will now have an opportunity to compete for developmental activations while providing additional depth during the final portion of the regular season.
For Williams, the move represents another step in a professional journey that has required persistence since entering the league in 2022. Now back with the Wings, she will have another chance to build on her previous stint in Arlington and carve out a larger role.
