WNBA Preview: Dallas Wings Return Home Looking to Rebound Against Connecticut Sun

STWF Sports | ARLINGTON, Texas | August 2, 2026 — The Dallas Wings return to College Park Center on Sunday night looking to get back in the win column when they host the Connecticut Sun at 6 p.m. CT.

Dallas enters the matchup at 18-11 after dropping an 81-76 road decision to the Washington Mystics on Friday. Connecticut comes to Arlington at 7-22 after a 94-88 loss to the Chicago Sky.

Sunday’s game will air nationally on ESPN, with Beth Mowins handling play-by-play, Debbie Antonelli serving as analyst and Brooke Weisbrod reporting from the sideline.

The Wings are looking to steady themselves after a frustrating finish in Washington. Paige Bueckers led Dallas with 23 points, while Arike Ogunbowale added 20 as the Wings remained within striking distance late. Washington ultimately separated itself by controlling key rebounds and converting at the free-throw line in the closing moments.

Alanna Smith provided an encouraging performance off the bench, scoring 11 points and grabbing five rebounds. The scoring output matched her season high and gave Dallas another interior option as the Wings continue into the second half of the schedule.

Bueckers and Ogunbowale remain at the center of the Dallas offense. Bueckers has continued to provide efficient scoring and playmaking, while Ogunbowale has been one of the Wings’ most reliable offensive threats during the team’s recent stretch.

The challenge Sunday will be translating that perimeter production into a more complete performance, particularly on the glass and around the basket.

Dallas has already beaten Connecticut once this season. The Wings earned an 86-83 road victory on July 2 in the teams’ first meeting, overcoming a 14-point deficit before closing the game with a strong fourth-quarter push.

Dallas has won three of the last four regular-season meetings between the teams, but Sunday presents another historical hurdle. The Wings are seeking their first home victory over the Sun since Aug. 12, 2023.

Connecticut enters the matchup searching for a response of its own.

The Sun fell to Chicago on Thursday despite receiving a balanced offensive effort. Olivia Nelson-Ododa led Connecticut with 16 points and 11 rebounds, recording her third double-double of the season.

Former Wings guard Diamond Miller added 14 points, while Leila Lacan scored 12 and Charlisse Leger-Walker finished with 11.

Nelson-Ododa’s production will place an immediate emphasis on Dallas’ interior defense and rebounding. The Wings were hurt by extra possessions in their loss to Washington, making defensive rebounding one of the most important areas to watch against Connecticut.

Dallas will also need to establish its preferred tempo. When the Wings are able to create stops and get into transition, their collection of guards becomes especially difficult to contain. Bueckers can dictate pace as a scorer or facilitator, while Ogunbowale remains capable of changing a game quickly with her shot-making.

Sunday also provides Dallas an opportunity to reset at home following consecutive challenging finishes. The Wings have positioned themselves firmly in the postseason race, but maintaining consistency becomes increasingly important as the schedule moves deeper into August.

Connecticut, meanwhile, has little reason to play cautiously. The Sun’s record may place them near the bottom of the standings, but their young rotation continues to compete and develop, making them a dangerous opponent if Dallas allows them to gain confidence early.

For the Wings, the formula is straightforward: defend without fouling, finish possessions on the glass and allow their backcourt to dictate the game offensively.

With another meeting against Washington looming next week, Sunday’s home matchup represents an important opportunity for Dallas to regain momentum and begin August with a much-needed victory.
